War Will Be Waged in Trailer for THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES

Oh man oh Manischewitz, there was a lot of Hobbit represented at Comic-Con over the weekend, with an obvious personal favorite going to the giant Smaug head that opened its eyes every 30 seconds or so; super cool. But there was also a panel for it as part of the Warner Bros presentation, and at said panel there was a trailer, and FOLKS! it looks pretty darn cool, and certainly bound to be full of action. The mounting tensions between the Dwarfs, the Elves, the Humans, and the Orcs is about to hit a fever pitch and nobody looks to be backing down. Plus there’s that whole giant fire-spewing dragon bent on destroying all of Lake Town thing to deal with. So that’s fun. Enjoy the trailer, complete with Pippin (Billy Boyd) singing his somber ditty from The Return of the King.

Since there isn’t much in the way of the book of The Hobbit left to cover in the film, we’re (and be we, I mean me because I could be completely wrong and I don’t want to drag the good people of Nerdist down with me) thinking the following will happen: [SPOILERS ahead for those who haven’t read the book]

It’ll begin with Smaug and maybe 30-45 minutes in he’ll get killed by Bard (Luke Evans) leading to Thorin (Richard Armitage) reclaiming his fortune. Then, the human will want restitution for the deaths and property lost, and the elves led by King Thranduil (Lee Pace) will come a-calling and want their portion of the fortune he said he was owed in The Desolation of Smaug. All of this will then cause a battle to be waged between the three peoples, much to Bilbo (Martin Freeman)’s distress. And then the other two armies will get involved, and somehow Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen) dealing with the Necromancer will come into play because we also see him return following an encounter with Galadriel (Cate Blanchett). Lots to see, lots to wrap up, but it’ll mainly be action, I’d imagine.

We’ve got about 5 months to wait to see if I’m right or by how much I’m wrong because The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will come to cinemas December 12th 2014.

  1. An “is Gandalf dead” scene? In a prequel?
    At least this is it.

  2. Zellim says:

Glad they included footage of that ridiculous cart chase in order to warn us that this movie will likely be as terrible as the previous.
