Vote on LEGO Ideas to Bring an Amelia Earhart Set to Life

The LEGO Ideas platform has made blocky sets from franchises like Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and Adventure Time come to life. The site accepts submissions from fans, and if a concept projects get enough supporters—10,000 to be exact—it moves onto a review from LEGO. Set designers and marketing representatives from LEGO evaluate the idea, and after that, the project could become a set on shelves. The “I Am Amelia Earhart” set hopes to earn that honor.

The pilot and her plane were designed by Alatariel. You may recognize her name as the designer behind The Research Institute, the wonderful LEGO set devoted to female scientists, which was released in 2014; this set also came about thanks to LEGO Ideas. This time around, Alatariel has made an Amelia minifig based on the book I Am Amelia Earhart by Brad Meltzer and Chris Eliopoulos. The title is part of a series of illustrated children’s books featuring figures such as George Washington and Jane Goodall.

Amelia flies a yellow biplane in this set. It’s the one she bought for herself and named Canary. The minifig and plane are made from 186 parts. I think it would make an awesome present for any little girl. And hey, if the project works out, Meltzer and Eliopoulos can turn their attention to making sets inspired by their other books.

You have almost a year to lend your support to the project, but why wait? You can jump over to LEGO Ideas to add your vote.

Will you be supporting this pilot project? Let me know in the comments.
