Voltron: Legendary Defender is consistently one of the best series on television, blending together hard space opera storylines with anime-inspired mecha action and a healthy smattering of comedy to boot. It’s this last bit that has been the focus of some of the series most enjoyable episodes, including “Space Mall,” the controversial “The Voltron Show,” and last season’s crowd please “Monsters and Mana.” Now, for the upcoming seventh season, we’re getting another episode which will take our favorite paladins somewhere they’ve never, ever been: a game show. Check out our exclusive clip, and be prepared for the weirdness.
I love it when the show goes off the rails like this, and a floating interstellar game show host forcing our heroes to do a space version of Pictionary is definitely off the rails. The host (Bob, apparently) has a definite Mr. Mxyzptlk mixed with Mojo vibe, forcing Keith to draw his experiences with the crew of Voltron for the other paladins to guess. And boy howdy, Lance is a terrible guesser. And boy also howdy, everyone else is very good. Although we do agree with him on one point; no way that was blazzle hooches!
The crazy part comes toward the end when the paladins realize they have opponents…and those opponents are Zarkon, Haggar, Lotor, and Morvok. Clearly there’s something extra fishy going on, since as far as we know Zarkon is dead and Lotor is lost in the Quintessence. Hearing Zarkon say “hello, Bob” is worth the price of admission alone, though, and also, of course Morvok’s excited to be there.
We’re pretty jazzed for the new season in general, but this episode might be the standout silly one we’re waiting for. Let us know your thoughts on the upcoming season of Voltron: Legendary Defender in the comments below.
