Voltron Live

A live-action version of Voltron? Why not? But what would it be like? Here‘s one vision:

That’s the pretty impressive creation of none other than Alex Albrecht, your pal from Diggnation and The Totally Rad Show, among other things. The star is Timothy Omundson, Detective Lassie from USA Network’s Psych. Yeah, you could definitely see this as a full-blown live-action movie or series or something, no question. Someone call Alex and get on that right away.

Oh, yeah, Alex would like you to see this in full-screen with the volume cranked, so try that if you’re not at work.  Or if you are and don’t care if the boss notices you’re not actually working.

I would so watch that movie if it was just like that but I have a feeling that that would not be the case at all.

  2. RJ says:

Seriously some of the best stuff I’ve seen over the past month. Come on SyFy make this a series! Stop it with “reality” ghost hunting shows and (WTF) wrestling. Make actual SyFy drama!

  3. ThrillKill says:

@Thomas Gates: There was actual emotion and the cuts from shot to shot added actual weight and not quick cuts to look like more action. We don’t have to worry about it being Bay’s work.

  4. Kal says:

Eeeeeeeexcellent. I could see this going after the credits on some movie, (Avengers, ahem) and people thinking, “WTF?”
Then the hammer drops, “Sergeant Lance Ranier, Commander of the Red Lion, Second in Command of the Voltron Force.”
    Minds Blown.
Also, @Nate, was it the end music/shot? It strongly reminded me of Fireflys Episode- “Out Of Gas.”

  5. Thomas Gates says:

Wow that was pretty cool! If they could do a whole movie like that id be game for watching it as long as michael bay didnt direct it.

  6. ThrillKill says:

I really liked Voltron as a kid, but haven’t seen it in years. This really kinda reawakened super-robot excitement. Tim Omundson was icing on the cake. I could watch him read the phone book and it would be interesting. Thanks for posting this up!

  7. Yan says:

    Eh, no.

  8. Nate says:

Wow! That was awesome! Reminds me of Battlestar and Firefly.

  9. Nathaniel Wedgington Hornswaggle III says:

This looks really good. Would love to see it made into a series or such if they could keep it like that.

  10. Gospel X says:

I prefer to think that a live action Voltron (or a future Power Rangers show…) ought to be like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yii8cK2A9o

  11. Geopimp says:

Dude, they have to make this. I so want to see a live action version.

  12. Remster says:

Totally friggin’ awesome. I was never a Voltron fan growing up (didn’t hate, just didn’t care) but I still friggin’ loved this. Don’t hurt that I love me some Tim Omundson.

  13. Kedj says:

Loved it! Print it! Get it out there for everyone to enjoy!

  14. P@trick says:

That 3:51 was far better spent than the 30 minutes I wasted watching the latest cartoon version. Excellent work!

@TheDemko. I understand what you’re staying, but maybe it was intended to be shown sans spoilers. Think as if you were watching it and didn’t know it was supposed to be about Voltron. If you didn’t know until he says he’s the 2nd commander/pilot of the Red Lion, it’s a pretty cool surprise.

  15. TheDemko says:

OK – while that was cool, and while I love me some Tim Omundson (PSYCH FAN FOREVER – what?!) – that could have been a scene from ANY sci-fi movie ever. Other than that final shot of the lion, there really didn’t seem to be enough in this to tie it to Voltron. I understand having a limited (or non-existent) budget for a project like this, but I just didn’t feel that rush of nostalgia I’ve felt seeing other fan-made trailers like this.

  16. This is fantastic, dark, moody, true to the original and incredibly well acted. This is a great proof of concept for a dark, yet powerful Voltron movie.

Oh and that new show sucks.
