Visual Treat: Fiery Looping Coronal Rain on the Sun

This is video by NASA taken on July 19, 2012 of the result of a solar flare accompanied by a coronal mass ejection and looping magnetic field lines, a phenomenon called coronal rain. It is, simply, amazing to see. Hot plasma follows the looping magnetic fields, providing both a way to see the path of the magnetic fields and a visual spectacle. The video compresses 21 hours of action into about 4 minutes, and it’s a very interesting 4 minutes indeed.
