Vince Gilligan’s BATTLE CREEK Has Found Its Director

Because CBS isn’t quite done yet with giving people things to celebrate today (see the Under the Dome news), Deadline reports that the network has unveiled one of the most important pieces of news in regards to the upcoming television season: who the director for their upcoming series Battle Creek, created by Vince Gilligan with David Shore as showrunner, is going to be. The winner? X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer.

The news makes sense, considering Singer served as director and executive producer on Shore’s last hit series, House.

Since the series already has a confirmed thirteen episode order for its freshman season, it’s possible Singer will return to direct more than just the pilot episode, but for the moment, the pilot is all the he’s currently slated for (and all he might have time for, as he’s currently finishing post on Days of Future Past and prepping for X-Men: Apocalypse).

According to Deadline, the show follows “Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI agent Milton Bradley, who have different worldviews but are teamed up to clean up the semi-mean streets of Battle Creek, MI.” Kal Penn has also been confirmed to star in the series.

Singer’s work on the House pilot is fantastic, and it’s not hard to believe the man might be interested in taking on a project a little more grounded after spending the last few years with mutant-kind. With any luck, Gilligan wrote an amazing script that in the right hands could end up being broadcast television’s Breaking Bad. Or at least be really, really good.

Sorry, but no. I can’t help but think of Winters as the Mayhem douche from the Allstate commercials. No, no no. Count me out.

Milton Bradley? Didn’t want a crime fighting duo called the Parker Brothers?
I’m just imagining hm yelling, “Yahtzee!” when he get’s his man. Or maybe, “You sunk my Battleship” when they get away.

As someone from Michigan, I am both perplexed and intrigued by the idea of someone setting a cop show in Battle Creek. Lol

The mean streets of Battle Creek? I grew up there and I think the meanest it ever got was arguments between pro-Kellogs and pro-Post cereal supporters.
