V/H/S 3 Goes VIRAL, Announces Directors and Releases Production Still

We now have additional details on the third installment of the V/H/S series, coming out of the Cannes Film Festival. The upcoming installment of the franchise will be titled V/H/S Viral, and, according to Screen Daily, apparently this time the wrap around story will center on “fame-obsessed teens who unwittingly become stars of the next internet sensation.”

Also announced was the slate of directors, including the directing team behind Resolution, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, and Greg Bishop, Marcel Sarmimento, Todd Lincoln, and Nacho Vigalondo. Actors Emmy Argo and Justin Welborne have been listed as cast members, and Bloody Disgusting and The Collective are once again producing. Also, the production still below has been released:

I’m in the minority when I say that I enjoyed V/H/S as a whole more than I enjoyed V/H/S/2 but there is no denying the strength of some of the segments in the second installment, specifically the “Safe Haven” short. I also have a soft spot for “Slumber Party Alien Abduction,” but that’s just me.

What about you? Are you ready to see the V/H/S series continue? How do you find the premise of viral videos and teenagers obsessed with fame for this franchise? Make your voice heard in the comments section!

    I love these films!!!
Can’t wait for #3…and I just bought a new VCR today from Goodwill…ready to go viral!!!

I agree with you. I loved the first one as a whole, the second wasn’t quite as good in my mind but I did enjoy Safe Haven and Slumber Party. Glad to be in the minority with someone else.

  3. Hoss says:

I was a fan of the first one as a low-budget, found footage horror movie. My initial reaction to the second was “Wow…it’s just like the first with a bigger budget”. Here’s hoping they stay with the same formula that made me enjoy the first 2 as much as I did.

  4. Butthacker says:

While I do like segments of the second film very much, I also prefer the first film as a whole. It’s always good when a sequel can perform on it’s own, but downplay of the original due to subjective opinion is hardly worth it’s weight in elite douchery. I’m looking forward to seeing the third one, but I think the change in title structure is a bad decision. It seems more fitting to the basic premise to keep using numbers in the title, unless there is another way to elicit the feel of DIY VHS recordings.

  5. Derek says:

Sweet! Also interesting to note you like the very uneven original overly the vastly superior sequel, and then you have a “soft spot” for the only totally crap segment of 2…

    • Clarke Wolfe says:

I think the original has something gritty about it. I also think, from a production standpoint, that it’s really hard to completely discount “Slumber Party” from VHS 2. The way they did an alien story on a shoe string budget was really impressive to me. But I know it’s not for everyone.
