Does the VENOM Tie-In Comic Spoil the Film’s Secrets?

Warning: Spoilers are ahead for Venom!

Comic book movie prequels are nothing new at Marvel, but they rarely shed light on the films that spawned them. The new Venom digital comic appears to be an exception, and it may give away most of the movie’s first act. It doesn’t hold back on the dynamic between Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote. Today’s Nerdist News makes a stopover on Klyntar to bring you the most important details from the Venom prequel comic.

Join host and former Space Knight Jessica Chobot as she dives into Venom’s new adventure. The comic doesn’t show us how Brock and the symbiote were joined, but it does confirm the film’s central conflict. Brock is an investigative journalist who has been chasing a story about Dr. Carlton Drake and his Life Foundation, who apparently has been harvesting symbiotes from an alien shipwreck. And now that Brock has proof about the symbiote’s existence, Drake is actively trying to eliminate him.

The comic features Brock’s brief meeting with a Life Foundation whistle blower before depicting the motorcycle chase sequence shown in the trailer. The most intriguing aspect here is the way Brock plays off of his symbiote’s inner voice. The symbiote can hear Brock’s thoughts, and it reacts accordingly. It even objects to Brock describing it as a parasite; they don’t  have the smoothest rapport yet. But that doesn’t stop them from going full Venom before the end of the issue.

Additionally, the comic confirms parts of Venom’s comic book mythology are intact, including his vulnerability to fire and the symbiote’s homeworld. It’s a promising glimpse of Sony’s adaptation, which arrives in theaters on October 5.
