VACATION Directors In Talks To Write New SPIDER-MAN Film

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man reboot may have its screenwriters in place!

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are reportedly in early negotiations to write the new Spider-Man film that is being co-produced by Sony and Marvel Studios. Daley and Goldstein are coming off of their directorial debut, Vacation; which is itself a revival of the long-running National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has previously stated that the new Spider-Man would have “a John Hughes teen movie vibe,” and it certainly seems like the film will be approached that way. Daley and Goldstein primarily have a background in comedy, as their previous scripts include The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and both Horrible Bosses movies. The screenwriting duo was also up for the director’s chair in the new Spider-Man film before Jon Watts was chosen as the new director of the franchise.

Tom Holland (The Impossible) was recently cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and he will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Marisa Tomei has been cast as Spider-Man’s Aunt May, and she may also be making an appearance in Civil War.

Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man film will be released on July 28, 2017.

Comic fans, what do you think about the two potential screenwriters for Spider-Man? Should Marvel and Sony lean so heavily on Spidey’s comedic side? Crack a joke, spin a web and let us know what you’re thinking in the comment section below!
