The STAR WARS Cartoon Disney Doesn’t Want You to See

Cartoon expert Hector Navarro loves animation more than anyone we know, so we decided to give him his own show where he can share his admiration and expertise with everyone! We’re proud to introduce our newest Nerdist series, Animation Investigation, on which Hector will take a deep dive behind the every cell and pixel of the animation universe, exploring the most interesting and potentially overlooked happenings in the cartoon world. The show will dig up Easter eggs you didn’t even know to look for, hidden spoilers in spin-offs, “adult” messages you might have missed as a kid, the best and craziest theories, and ridiculous crossovers you weren’t aware existed. And in this debut episode, Hector is taking us to the galaxy far, far away, to look at the finished Star Wars cartoon series Disney doesn’t want you to see.

Before George Lucas sold the franchise, he had Seth Green complete two full seasons of his own comedic cartoon, Star Wars Detours. In this episode, Hector explains what led to its creation, the best and worst of the series based on actual footage from the show, and why it got shelved by the Mouse House when it bought Star Wars. Is there a German word for when you are retroactively angry you didn’t get to watch something you didn’t even know existed? Release Detours, Disney!

You can find new episodes of Animation Investigation right here every Thursday, and at our Nerdist Youtube and Facebook pages. What will Hector explore next? Could it be The Simpsons‘ eerie prophecies? If The Incredibles 2 was accidentally spoiled by its own video game? The saddest times Ash had to abandon his Pokémon? Or real-life controversies South Park created? Which animation stories do you want to learn more about from Hector? Give us your best topics for future episodes in the comments section below.
