Naughty Dog has released the third installment of their behind-the-scenes video series The Making of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and this week, the team further talks about pushing technical boundaries in Uncharted 4. The previous two episodes delved into the history of the series and how it has evolved over the years. Prepare yourself, because things are about to get technical. Peep the clip above.
Before the video really even starts, we get Emilia Schatz (Lead Game Designer) confessing that moving over to the PS4 was no easy job. As fans of these games and developers, we rarely take a second to consider how difficult transitions between consoles can be. Sony‘s first-party developers in particular had to go from the Cell processor of the PS3 to the more PC-like architecture of the PS4. Several other Naughty Dog members reiterate the sentiment, and even mention how huge the leap is between Uncharted 4 and its predecessors when it comes to animations/visuals.
Some other interesting tidbits are also shared, like the fact that you’ll have analog control of both of Nathan Drake’s hands when climbing. Also, some of the stealth from The Last of Us will be making its way over. The one comment that stood out the most to me, though, was the idea of melding stealth and combat into one fluid experience. You can apparently skip a few of the combat sequences just by sneaking past the baddies.
What do you guys think about everything that was discussed in the video? Anything stick out to you? Let us know in the comments below!
