UNCHARTED 4 Crew Chats About Growing Up with Drake in Behind-the-Scenes Video

Last week, the folks at Naughty Dog released the first in a series of behind-the-scences videos chronicling the journey to Uncharted 4‘s release. In the inaugural episode, the team discussed the evolution of the Uncharted franchise. This week, they dove even deeper, and touched on what it was like growing up with Nathan Drake. Check it out above.

In the past, the developer has discussed how the final game will feature an older, wiser, Drake who’s approaching a turning point in his life. He’ll have to decide whether he’s prepared to put his treasure-hunting days behind him once and for all. To emphasize that theme, the developers and cast explained how they’ve grown up with the characters, and how their experience influenced the direction of Nate’s look and story.

Unlike other franchises, Nate isn’t stuck in time and has aged from the first game to Uncharted 4. But, he doesn’t age like your average person. His treacherous adventures have taken their toll. Like Sullivan, the thought of being “too old for this” is coming to mind more than ever for our favorite hero.

Co-director Neil Druckmann also discussed how Nate’s own experience with making sacrifices to achieve greatness mirrored their own.

“As a game developer, this is hard work,” Druckmann said. “People think you’re here playing games all the time and sure, that happens every once in a while, but for the most part, this is very hard, grueling work. A lot of times it’s long hours and you make personal sacrifices.”

Nate has certainly come a long way since we first met him in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. It seems Naughty Dog has put everything they’ve got into making his final chapter something fans will love. We can’t wait to get our hands on the game once it hits shelves (and online stores) on May 10.
