UNCANNY AVENGERS # 5 Preview Shows the Hunt for Red Skull Heating Up

It’s been a hard road for the Avengers Unity Division since the first Uncanny Avengers series. Of the original team, only Rogue and Steve Rogers remain. But in the wake of Secret Wars, they’ve assembled a new team that includes Deadpool, Human Torch, Quicksilver, Doctor Voodoo, and the rookie Inhuman heroine, Synapse.

In the last issue, time traveling mutant hero Cable returned from the future and put his personal crusade on hold to join the Avengers when he discovered the Unity Division’s secret mission: to find the Red Skull! Shortly after the events of Avengers vs. X-Men, the Red Skull harvested the brain of the late Charles Xavier, making him one of the most powerful telepaths in the world. During Axis, the Red Skull nearly succeeded in remaking the Earth in his image and destroying the heroes. Needless to say, finding the Red Skull is a huge priority for them!

The preview for Uncanny Avengers # 5 picks up with Rogue, Human Torch, Cable, and Deadpool venturing into the supervillain underworld to get leads on the Red Skull. According to Johnny Storm, they’re on the Queen Kathleen, “the Love Boat for scum.” You may recognize a lot of the lesser known Marvel villains enjoying themselves on a pleasure cruise.

Uncanny Avengers # 5 Page 2The cover for Uncanny Avengers # 5 reveals that Gambit will be making his return in this issue, and Rogue looks particularly happy to see her ex. But if Gambit is already on the Queen Kathleen, is he there to help the team or does he have his own agenda?

Marvel has released the first few pages of Uncanny Avengers # 5, which you can find in our gallery below. The creative team includes writer Gerry Duggan, artists Carlos Pacheco, Mariano Taibo, and Dave Meikis, and colorist Richard Isanove. Uncanny Avengers # 5 will be released on Wednesday, February 3.
