Celebrities have the ability to afford luxuries that definitely arenât the norm for an everyday household. If MTV Cribs has taught us anything, it’s that famous home additions include spectacular things like theme park rides by the pool and bowling alleys in the basementâoutlandish areas that normal people can only dream of for their own homes. Actor/singer/model Tyrese Gibson may have outdone them all by building a fully functioning Benihana in his backyard.
A few years ago, Tyrese posted a YouTube video in which he gave a tour of his backyard restaurant, which he named Gibsihana. It’s a standing building with Japanese-like shoji screen walls and a fire pit. Inside there’s a Benihana-style grill cook top with seats surrounding the cooking area just like a real Benihana. Tyrese even went so far as to have menus printed with the Gibsihana name and set up a Facebook page for the faux-restaurant, although it hasnât been updated since 2012. Still, A for effort.
Comedian and well-known foodie Aziz Ansari has been asking for an invite to this dream backyard restaurant for years, with no word from Tyrese. That is until this weekend when an Instagram video surfaced of Ansari dining at the one and only Gibsihana. Revel in the video of Ansari perfectly catching a grilled shrimp in his mouth as Tyrese and the boys from The Lonely Island, including Brookyln 99 star Andy Samberg, cheer from the sidelines.
Tyrese states that he’s hosted many celebrities, family members, and friends over the years. The Gibsihana Facebook page shows past backyard diners include Fast and the Furious co-stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and pals Will Smith with his daughter Willow Smith. Props to Tyrese for making his teppanyaki dreams come true. We should all eat so well.
Would you build a working Benihana in your backyard? I know I would. Let us know in the comments!
