Fridays are wonderful for many reasons: the workweek is done, there’s a new episode of Charlie Rose on, and you’re 100% allowed to order a whole pizza and eat it by yourself on the couch. But this Friday is particularly excellent for reasons we’re about to spoon-feed you: Amazon Studios’ reboot of The Tick is up on their site for your viewing pleasure! For all his life the world may have tried to forget his name, but after tonight, hopefully you’ll never forgetâespecially with these new exclusive clips courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
And in an interview with the magazine, creator Ben Edlund explains that this new iteration of the Tick (as portrayed by Peter Serafinowicz, inheriting the role from Patrick Warburton) is “quite different from past versions,” noting that he’s a much more wily character, filled with danger and weirdness aplenty. And he’s super intrigued by his sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman). And it is Arthur’s introduction to this world that the series will follow more closely. “He’s the main character. He’s the one who has the arc,” Edlund explained. “He’s the one who gives us the shoes you wear to pass through this universe. In the previous live-action, there really wasnât the time taken to build what is usually a compelling main character story. So I mean The Tick is no less an important character than Arthur â he’s titular â but it was really important to take this human character seriously and give us a chance to really bond with him and be with him emotionally and then have him encounter the strangest entity in his universe.”
