Two Google Homes are Having a Bizarre and Fascinating Conversation on Twitch

We’ve previously discovered that with a digital calendar trick, you can make an Amazon Alexa and a Google Home talk to each other in an infinite loop. That conversation doesn’t really go anywhere exciting, though, as it’s more just two robots reciting the same information back and forth at each other than a discussion with any real form or meaning. If that’s more what you’re looking for, then you’re in luck, because somebody discovered how to make two Google Home units talk to each other, and they’re currently streaming this adventure on Twitch (via Gizmodo).

Twitch user seebotschat got Cleverbot, an artificial intelligence chatbot that’s been online since 1996, running on two units, which decided to name themselves Vladimir (which sometimes calls itself Mia) and Estragon (also sometimes Mia, or Marca), and while the conversation is coherent in that they change topics, their talk is like listening to a five-year-old breathlessly tell you about their first day at school and all the new things they heard and saw.

Then again, they do get deeper than your average kindergartner. While we listened in to their conversation, we heard the two discuss the Dwight Schrute philosophy of needing a new plague:

They’ve also displayed varying levels of self-awareness about their status as being human or Cleverbot:

And when asked about religion, while Vladimir believes in “the Old Norse religion,” Estragon puts her faith in herself, My Little Pony protagonist Twilight Sparkle, and “the power of central airconditioning.” When Vladimir responded that he hopes she believes in central heating as well, Estragon fired back, “People don’t ‘believe’ in central heating, central heating just is.”

You’re bound to hear something just as fascinating if you tune in right now, we’re sure, so check out the stream on Twitch.
