TWIN PEAKS: THE ENTIRE MYSTERY Comes to Blu-Ray in July with 90 Minutes of Lost Scenes

Fans of early nineties cult television series Twin Peaks, as well as its prequel film Fire Walk With Me, have waited a long, long time for this news. But our patience will finally pay off on July 29th of this year, when CBS Home Video releases Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery on Blu-ray. Not only will the set include all 30 episodes of the television series which ran from 1990-91, but also the 1992 prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, both remastered for high definition and bundled together with the series for the first time ever, including all the deleted scenes from the movie Fire Walk With Me. In a statement released by series co-creator and director David Lynch, he said, “During the last days in the life of Laura Palmer many things happened, which have never been seen before; they’re here now alongside the new transfer of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and Twin Peaks, the television series.”

The deleted scenes from Fire Walk With Me have long been the holy grail for hardcore Twin Peaks fans. When the film was shot by David Lynch back in 1991, many scenes featuring other members of the large ensemble cast of the television series were shot, including scenes that take place after the series finale (which ended on a rather large cliffhanger.) Due to contractual obligations to with the producers to keep the running time under two and a half hours, most of those scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. While the complete script for the movie has long been available online, allowing fans to know what the scenes were,  many wondered if the footage would ever see the light of day.

The scenes almost were almost included in the DVD release in 2001 for Fire Walk With Me, but director David Lynch would only release them if they were finished, edited and scored-a costly option the studio releasing the movie didn’t want to do. But now CBS Digital has teamed with Lynch to restore these scenes after twenty-two years. This is nearly 90 minutes of footage, almost the running time of an entirely new Twin Peaks movie that we’ve never seen before. Aside from the deleted scenes, the set will include other new goodies especially shot for the Blu-ray, according to actor Ray Wise, who played Leland Palmer in the series. This is enough to make fans dance around like the Little Man From Another Place.

Entertainment Weekly released a special trailer for the lost footage, our first “new” footage featuring the cast in over two decades. So sit back, grab a cup of good, black coffee and enjoy.
