The cast of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s long awaited new season of Twin Peaks on Showtime continues to grow, with the addition of actors Naomi Watts and Tom Sizemore to the cast in unspecified roles, according to a report from Deadline. Naomi Watts and David Lynch have a strong professional relationship going back some timeâshe got her big break (and first Oscar nomination) playing dual roles in Lynch’s seminal film Mulholland Drive. She also made a small cameo appearance alongside her Mulholland Drive co-star Laura Harring as a rabbit (don’t ask) in Lynch’s Inland Empire.
Tom Sizemore was once one of Hollywood’s hottest up-and-coming actors in the ’90s, but lately has found his output not as high profile. But his casting in Twin Peaks is perfect, as David Lynch has always enjoyed casting talented, older actors that Hollywood has forgotten and given them a second chance at success. Even more exciting, Deadline has learned that Lynch is also reprising his role from both the TV series and the prequel film Fire Walk With Me as FBI Chief Gordon Cole, Agent Cooper’s boss. This was pretty much a given, but it’s nice to hear it confirmed.
So far, series star Kyle MacLachlan is the only cast member who is 100% confirmed by Showtime to be in for the new Twin Peaks season, which is currently set to premiere in early 2017. Still, many other other original cast members are known to be returning include Sherilyn Fenn, Miguel Ferrer, and Sheryl Lee. Also new faces like Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Jason Leigh and Lynch-film alum Laura Dern are also joining the cast. Twin Peaks is said to be at the halfway point of filming for the new series, so some other high profile names could still join the cast.
What do you think of these latest additions to Twin Peaks? Do you think Naomi Watts might reprise one of her roles from Mulholland Drive, giving credence to the rumors that there is an interconnected Lynchiverse? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
