TWIN PEAKS Officially Delayed Until 2017

It looks like the ghost of Twin Peaks murdered homecoming queen was off by about one year when she told Agent Dale Cooper “I’ll see you again in 25 years,” back during the show’s final episode in 1991. It now appears that rumors of a delay for Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival are indeed true. CBS Corp. chief Leslie Moonves confirmed the rumors that David Lynch and Mark Frost’s new season of Twin Peaks won’t premiere until sometime in 2017. (CBS is the owner of Showtime Networks.)

It’s been something of a bumpy road for Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival ever since it was announced last October. Creators David Lynch and Mark Frost surprised everyone when they dropped the news that their beloved cult TV series would be returning for nine new episodes, then announced in an official YouTube video that it would be coming in 2016. Then Lynch quit the show over budget issues this past April, leaving the whole project in doubt, only to come back a few months later. When he returned, the series initial order of nine then apparently doubled to eighteen. If waiting a year means double the episodes, well, that’s hardly a bad thing.

Twin Peaks has been filming for the past couple of months on location in Washington state, and has recently moved production to California, where they are said to be shooting until May of next year. Kyle MacLachlan returns as Agent Dale Cooper, along with many of the original series cast members (but not, apparently, Michael Ontkean as Sheriff Harry Truman). The series has also added some high profile new cast members like Jennifer Jason Leigh and Amanda Seyfried. Although it’s a bummer we’ll have to wait the extra year for new Twin Peaks, we’ll just have to tide ourselves over with the plethora of other returning nerd properties like X-Files, Star Wars, and Ash vs The Evil Dead. I think we’ll all survive somehow.
