TV-Cap: Woody Allen’s Amazon TV Series, New 12 MONKEYS Footage, & an ARROW Return

Happy Wednesday, TV lovers! It’s hump day and boy oh boy do we have a metaphorical mountain of small screen news over which you shall now traverse. So much has happened in the past 24 hours — like the news that Woody Allen will make a TV show for Amazon Studios, or the release of even more new footage from Syfy’s 12 Monkeys series, or the fact that a fan-favorite is returning to Arrow. And that’s not even taking into consideration the trailer for The CW’s new intrique-machine, The Messengers, which we also have here. So let’s get to it, shall we?

First Thing’s First: The amount of DC TV news that has come out in the past few days is downright mind-boggling. Luckily for all of us we’ve got Chobot and she’s ready to break it all down for you on Nerdist News. [Nerdist]

Felicity’s Mom Has Got it Going On: Yeah, that’s right — Charlotte Ross (better known to Arrow fans as Donna Smoak) will apparently return to the superverse of DC/CW doings. Felicity’s mom is set to return in this season’s forthcoming 18th episode. Does this mean we’ll see more of Felicity’s dark past? [TVLine]

Angels of Purpose: Now that The CW’s gone ahead and won themselves a Golden Globe award (hooray Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez!), everyone is going to have to start taking them a bit more seriously, eh? Like with their latest trailer for their new series The Messengers. If you enjoy things that are wild in premise, take a stab at the meaning of life and humanity, and are totally out of this world (as in, one of the characters may not be of this earth), perhaps this is the one for you! Take a look for yourselves and see, though:

New Community Teaser: But let’s just keep this one casual and between friends, shall we? [Nerdist]

Woody’s Making TV Now: OK, well now shoot — here’s a controversial thing that’s sure to be very polarizing. Woody Allen is going to make a television series for Amazon Studios. And it’s already been picked up for a full season, even though literally no one knows what a Woody Allen half-hour comedy TV show will look like — not even Allen himself. “I don’t know how I got into this,” the director said in a statement. “I have no ideas, and I’m not sure where to begin. … My guess is Roy Price [head of Amazon Studios] will come to regret this.” Listen, I am all for creators getting space and creating because of their own unique vision or what-have-you, but this? This is sort of annoying, right? Like, it doesn’t even sound like Allen WANTS to do a series, let alone KNOWS what TV today looks like. Also if anyone saw Magic in the Moonlight they’d know that maybe Allen’s time as a preeminent voice and/or auteur might be waning in favor of other, funnier neurotic voices. So I guess we can all be relieved to know that talent and integrity and a solid, thought-out storytelling plan win again? Oh wait. [NYTimes]

Comedians to Continue Drinking Coffee with Seinfeld: Crackle’s runaway hit web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee had been renewed for another season of driving and talking back in April. Tuesday at the TCA Winter Press Tour the site announced that the next batch of episodes will air this spring. It’s a cute little show filled with great conversations, so this is fairly exciting news! Congrats, Jerry. [Deadline]

Even More Monkeys: Hot on the heels of the series’ first nine minutes being put up online (watch ’em here, ya silly bunheads!) comes another look at the new Syfy series, 12 Monkeys. [IGN]

Mark and Jay Duplass Interview: We chatted up the brothers D regarding their new HBO series, Togetherness. [Nerdist]

OK so, let’s have some fun with this Woody Allen news, shall we? Create some summaries and/or loglines for what you imagine an Allen TV series will look like and put ’em in the comments.

  1. Scott says:

Allen was clearly goofing around in his comments. It’s called wit.
