TV-Cap: VAN HELSING Casts a Lead, X-FILES Finale Photos, and More

Today is apparently all about casting news. ‘Tis the season for finding leads, after all. Keep reading today’s TV-Cap to learn about who has been cast in Van Helsing, to see photos from the upcoming finale of The X-Files, to get a peek at live-action Vixen in an Arrow trailer, and to find out where you can watch Doctor Who digitally now that it’s gone from online streaming services.

Well, She’s Awesome. The preview for the next episode of Arrow shows Felicity finally learns about William. I’m nervous on Ollie’s behalf. But, I’m also relived because Vixen is coming to town—remember, she’s being brought to life by Megalyn Echikunwoke, who voices her in the Vixen animated series—and she looks amazing. Digital Timey Wimey. If you missed the sad news, Doctor Who is no longer available on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon. I know, it’s mildly tragic. How can you follow the TARDIS adventures now? Kyle breaks down your digital viewing options right here on Nerdist.

Slightly Misguided. Bill Hader has a new pilot coming to HBO called Barry. He stars as Barry, a former hitman who visits Los Angeles for a job but finds his place in a group of thespians. I believe something like that could actually happen in Los Angeles. The comedy has just cast a rad co-star: Henry Winkler is on board to play an acting teacher. [Deadline]

A Reunion. The X-Files season finale is almost here, and Fox has released photos previewing what’s ahead. Weirdly, none of them have Mulder. The images do, however, show the return of Annabeth Gish as Agent Monica Reyes. The episode will supposedly address where Mulder and Scully’s kid is. See more photos from the episode at Entertainment Weekly. [Images: Fox]

Leader Found. Syfy has found its lead for Van Helsing. The upcoming drama will premiere on Syfy in the fall withKelly Overton (Legends, True Blood) playing Vanessa Helsing, a descendent of the Van Helsing line. She must take charge and help humanity survive a world ruled by vampires. Read about other cast additions to Van Helsing at Deadline.

Another New Face. Fox’s Wayward Pines has gained another new face: Djimon Hounsou has been cast for season two. He’ll play a former teacher called Mitchum. [TVLine]

Let’s Be Honest. Screen Junkies has faced zombies for their latest installment of Honest Trailer. They tackled seasons four through six of The Walking Dead and hit every major fan complaint we’ve heard, with a special section just for Carol. [Nerdist]

An Unlikely Pairing. Time travel seems to be one of the big “things” in upcoming television. ABC is rebooting Time After Time, a book and movie that follows H.G. Wells and Jack the Ripper having adventures. They’ve cast the leads, too. Josh Bowman will play Jack the Ripper, and Freddie Stroma will play H.G. Wells. [Variety]

Going Back. Here’s the thing about TV: it never stops. If you take one night off watching, you’ve missed about a million episodes. Relive some highlights from Tuesday and Wednesday evenings by reading our recaps of The Flash (Zoom!), Star Wars Rebels (dad’s back!), Arrow (so many secrets!), and Supernatural (the Hand of God!).

What are your predictions for The X-Files finale? What did you about Wednesday night TV? Tell us everything in the comments.
