TV-Cap: THE WALKING DEAD Casts Paul ‘Jesus’ Monroe, ASH VS. EVIL DEAD Featurette, & More

The Dubsmash Wars are very much a battle between Marvel’s Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but the latest submission to the charity contest opens the door for crossovers. It makes me want to see characters from all the comic book series on TV get in on the fun. Learn about the latest Dubsmash video in today’s TV-Cap and get news on Jesus in The Walking Dead, watch a featurette for Ash vs. Evil Dead, and get the scoop on an addition to the Legends of Tomorrow cast.

Introductions Are in Order. When Ash fought Deadites in the films, he was more of a one-man show. But in the upcoming Ash vs. Evil Dead from Starz, he has a team. A new featurette introduces them and also discusses how the Deadites come back and make themselves a nuisance. The show premieres on October 31. [Nerdist]

We Have You. How long do you give a television series to see if it hooks you? One episode, three episodes, a season? Netflix analyzed this important subject in a new study focused on how long it takes for viewers to get sucked in. It depends on the show, of course, and Netflix looked at 12 titles — Daredevil, How I Met Your Mother, and The Blacklist. In their analysis, no one was hooked by the pilot, which makes sense. A show shouldn’t be judged on its pilot because the show often changes, sometimes drastically. The average was more like three to four episodes. Jesus After All. A set photo recently leaked from the set of The Walking Dead season six showing a character that looked an awful lot like Paul “Jesus” Monroe — so much so that it seemed unlikely it was any other character. And it’s true. Tom Payne has been cast as the character from the comic books. [Nerdist]

Getting Goosies. The season two premiere of The Flash is only a week and a half away, and it looks like many exciting developments are ahead. A brief clip shows off more of Jay Garrick and some behind-the-scenes fun. [Comic Book Resources]

Day-to-Day Muppets. ABC has brought The Muppets back to primetime, and the latest, more adult take on the characters debuted with the series premiere this week. Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and more take center stage in the docu-series style sitcom, but did the new format work? Read Blake’s review of “Pig Girls Don’t Cry.”

Negative Space. Mr. Robot’s Stephanie Corneliussen is taking a trip to the DC Comics television universe. She’s been cast as Valentina Vostok in Legends of Tomorrow. Though Vostok, a.k.a. Negative Woman, has been a hero in the comics, she’s set to play a villain in the series and the time-traveling heroes will meet her during the Cold War. [Nerdist]

Pilot Season. Amazon’s lineup for fall pilot season features six pilots that are all over the map, because variety is great. The shows will debut before the end of the year and include Edge (a western set in 1868), Good Girls Revolt (a drama set in 1969), Highston (a comedy), One Mississippi (a drama), Patriot (a political thriller), and Z (a bio-series about Zelda Fitzgerald). Will you be watching any of these pilots?

Friends. In the latest round of the charitable Dubsmash Wars, Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennet didn’t hold back. They called in Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Deadpool, and Batman to help them. “Why Can’t We Friends?” is the perfect choice for this ensemble. Watch the video and vote/donate at Crowdrise. A Bowie Original. Britain’s The Last Panthers — a crime thriller — will have quite the opening theme song. Musician David Bowie penned and recorded a tune for the series that is definitely out of the ordinary. It’s been more than 20 years since Bowie made something for television. The Last Panthers doesn’t have a scheduled release date for the United States yet but will air in the fall in Europe (the trailer’s embedded above). Maybe they’ll share the opening credits on Bowie’s website or on YouTube. [Nerdist]

Not the Last Laugh. Two female creators with Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Prods have sold comedies to ABC and NBC. Jordan Roter’s Aunt Jill is slated for ABC and Ganatra’s Pre-Madonna is set for NBC. Both comedies have received pilot commitments. Yay for awesome women in comedy! [Deadline]
