TV-Cap: THE SIMPSONS Renewed for 27th and 28th Seasons, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Season Finale Photos, & More

Today’s list of television news comes with up and downs. Renewals, happy endings, departures, sad endings—we’ve got a mix today. Let’s not drag our feet any longer, eh? Go onward and upward to see photos from the season finale of The Vampire Diaries, to learn about getting more of The Simpsons, and to read some disappointing news about Season 3 of Sleepy Hollow.

A Beginning, An Ending. We know Nina Dobrev is leaving The Vampire Diaries at the end of Season 6, and sadly, that moment is almost here. The season finale airs on May 14 and though it features some happiness with Alaric and Jo’s wedding, there has to be some sadness or it wouldn’t be Mystic Falls. The description says an uninvited guest leaves Elena in terrible jeopardy. Delena fans, buy many boxes of tissues now just in case. See more photos from the episode at TVLine.

They’ve Still Got It. Say whatever the opposite of “D’oh!” is because The Simpsons has been renewed for Seasons 27 and 28! Wowza. The renewal from Fox means the cartoon will hit 625 episodes and extend its reign as the longest-running scripted show in television history. How many of you have been there from the beginning?

There Will Be Blood. If you thought the first three episodes of Game of Thrones were a little quiet on the action front, then “Sons of the Harpy” was probably right up your alley. Blood was spilled from King’s Landing to Meereen, and oh boy, did some interesting hints get dropped about Jon Snow’s parentage. I’m still losing it. Get all the details in Alicia’s recap.

Atom In Action. The CW is releasing some cool Superhero Fight Club promo posters as Season 3 of Arrow draws to a close, and Brandon Routh’s Atom is featured in the latest one. Fingers crossed he moves to the front and center on a more regular basis in the Arrow/Flash spinoff. [CBR]

Getting Schooled. The pilot for the adaptation of Lev Grossman’s The Magicians has been picked up by Syfy and given a 12-episode order. Huzzah! The book focuses on a group of friends who attend a university specializing in magic and who have to protect the world–yes, those are the very broadest of strokes. The series stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, and Summer Bishil. It will begin shooting in July in Vancouver. [Deadline]

Say It Isn’t So. I’m sorry for what I’m about to tell you, Sleepyheads. It looks like Orlando Jones won’t be returning as Captain Frank Irving for Season 3 of Sleepy Hollow. Variety reports that Jones departed before production began on the next season. Irving had just gotten back together with the band, so to speak, at the end of last season so I’m curious to see what they’ll do with the character. [Nerdist]

Torn Loyalties. Skye is part of two groups now: S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Inhumans. In a clip from tonight’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., “Scars,” Coulson and May seem suspicious of her new pals and not terribly understanding of why they want to keep their location secret. [CBR]

Los Angeles, 1983. Remember when music videos were a big industry? If you didn’t live through it, go read up on the ’80s and ’90s. You’ll be amazed. Or you can wait to get a glimpse of the world in David Fincher’s upcoming series Video Synchronicity. HBO has reportedly ordered the comedy set in 1983 Los Angeles to series. Charlie Rowe stars as the lead, Robby, a college dropout who ends up working in the music video business as a production assistant. [The Hollywood Reporter]
