I know the remake game gets old, but what do you think when universes are rebooted–as in, taking an existing universe and telling new stories? That’s what is in the works for The Last Starfighter, and I’m on board. Out of Balance. Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen in Burn Notice is one of my favorite things ever so I’m rather excited to see Donovan in the latest teaser for Season 2 of Fargo. He’s joining the series along with Ted Danson, Kirsten Dunst, Jean Smart, and more. The upcoming season is jumping back in time to the days when Lou Solverson was part of the Bemidji Police Department. [Nerdist]

So Many Options. Original scripted series seem to be king on cable television, and Spike TV isn’t taking any chances in that department. They have a variety of projects on their slate including a series set in 19th century New York (Hummel & Howe), a war show produced by Bryan Singer (World War III), and a psychological horror series (Bad Medicine). Oy, Teenagers. The Hotel Transylvania franchise is sucking the blood out of a new medium. Sony Pictures Animation and Nelvana are developing an animated series set in that universe to be released in 2017. This time the supernatural family drama will focus on Dracula’s teenage daughter Mavis and her friends. I bet they’re likely to have some unique kinds of problems. [Comic Book Resources]

Look Who’s Front and Center. A promotional poster for Season 7 of The Vampire Diaries was on display at Comic-Con, and I’m thrilled to see Caroline front and center. Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) left the series last season, and it seems like Candice Accola’s Caroline will move into the leading lady spot. The poster also features the Salvatore brothers, Bonnie, and Enzo. Regardless of all the trouble Enzo causes, I’m glad he’ll have a bigger role to play in the upcoming season. [TV Fanatic]

Ready to Fly. With a story as sprawling as Game of Thrones, cuts have to be made. Sometimes those cuts involve putting characters aside for entire seasons, like they did with Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) for Season 5. The move presumably gave the character time to develop new skills, and Hempstead-Wright has confirmed to the Irish Examiner that he’s back in Season 6. He said, “I am back this season, and it’s going to get particularly interesting with Bran. He has some interesting visions.” Like, three-eyed raven sort of visions? [Nerdist]

When Change is Good. The look of Westeros has changed since the first season of Game of Thrones premiered five years ago. Technology and visual effects have improved, and the effects in the series have only gotten better and more realistic. I mean, just look at “Hardhome.” io9 spoke with Game of Thrones’ VFX supervisor Joe Bauer about how the effects have evolved each season and take a look at the best shots over the years in the above video. Looking Sharp. Supergirl had quite the showing at Comic-Con. The pilot premiered, the cast appeared on a panel, and they announced Peter Facinelli will be playing Maxwell Lord. As the icing to the cake (I won’t say the cherry on top because maraschino cherries are gross), CBS has released a series of cast portraits. You can see the entire gallery at TVLine.

The Star League. I don’t know what your experience is, but the 1984 film The Last Starfighter comes up regularly in my day-to-day conversations. It’s a classic, and I’m amazed and happy it hasn’t been remade yet. Instead, the next exploration of the universe is going in another direction. Starfighter screenwriter Jonathan Betuel has the rights back for The Last Starfighter and is working with Surreal.tv on a new TV series called The Starfighter Chronicles. Rather than retelling the movie or acting as a sequel, Chronicles will jump to a different part of the world and focus on the Star League and how it falls apart. Bonus: the show would feature a virtual reality aspect. Huh. I’m intrigued. What do you guys think? [Nerdist]

Breaking the Multiverse. Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken will offer up another humorous take on the DC Comics-verse this fall with Robot Chicken DC Comics Special 3: Magical Friendship. The trailer debuted at Comic-Con and shows that the third special is about Batman and Superman’s friendship and rivalry. That’s only fitting given the upcoming film. And also, they’re bringing in the Multiverse. The best part about that is no matter how ridiculous they get with the Multiverse, you can rest assured that it probably exists within DC Comics world. Seriously. The comics-themed special will mark the beginning of Season of 8 of Robot Chicken; it will premiere in October. [/Film]
