TV-Cap: SHERLOCK Teaser Introduces the Abominable Bride, POWERS Trailer, and More

If you’re a DC Comics fan, you’re possibly (probably) flipping out over what happened on Supergirl last night. I won’t spoil a thing, but you should watch the episode as soon as you can to preserve the surprise. Moving on to today’s TV-Cap: please enjoy the opening number from season two of Galavant, new Game of Thrones footage, a teaser and poster for the Sherlock holiday special, the first look at season two of Powers, and more.

Here Comes the Bride. The Sherlock holiday special is taking Sherlock Holmes and John Watson back to 1895. To make the occasion extra special, BBC has released two retro, pulpy posters for Sherlock: The Abominable Bride and a teaser. The Abominable Bride seems to be a ghost, and she’s roaming the streets looking for revenge. Insert spooky music here. [ComicBook.com, Images: BBC]

Wonder Puma. iZombie‘s midseason finale airs tonight, December 8, and it’s putting Liv into the role of a superhero–well, vigilante crime fighter. Diane Ruggiero, writer of the episode and executive producer of the series, discussed the episode and the serious business of coming up with fake superhero names while I was visiting the set of the show. Read the preview here at Nerdist.

The Power of the Force. Conan will turn its attention to the stars on Thursday, December 17. He’ll have a special Star Wars: The Force Awakens show with J.J. Abrams and basically all the cast. Program your recording devices now. Conan O’Brien teased the episode with a discussion about whether Han or Greedo shot first. Let’s hope he doesn’t bring it up when Harrison Ford is there. So Much Ambition. Look, Netflix hasn’t been slacking off in the original content department. They’ve been responsible for releasing some of the best television series in recent memory, and they’re not stopping. Head of content Ted Sarandos has announced they’re planning to double original content in 2016. They’ll deliver 31 original series instead of the 16 they dropped in 2015. Whoa. It’s an aggressive move and takes Netflix to a whole new level. [Engadget]

Elf Trouble. Not all Christmas specials are heartwarming. Robot Chicken goes a different route with their holiday festivities. The above trailer shows just a peek at the antics ahead in The Robot Chicken Christmas Special: X-Mas United. It will air on Sunday, December 13, at midnight on Adult Swim.

One Step Closer. Marvel’s Iron Fist officially has a showrunner! Huzzah! We knew the series was still in the works but having a captain of the ship makes it more real, you know? Marvel has tapped Scott Buck for the position. Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb said, “Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet.” [Nerdist]

Continuing Mystery. The second season of HBO’s The Leftovers has wrapped, and it’s time to look back. They focused on the mystery of why people disappeared and how the people left are still dealing with it. Read Alicia’s thoughts on season two right this way.

Twisted Holiday. The midseason finale of The Flash is embracing the Christmas spirit and doing it with a dash of chaos. An extended promo for “Running to Stand Still” (airing December 8) shows that Barry will have to deal with Captain Cold, the Trickster, Weather Wizard, and Zoom. No big. Side note: how fabulous is Captain Cold saying “ho ho ho?” [Comic Book Resources]

New Earworm. ABC’s Galavant knows how to poke fun at itself and all of television, and they’re starting in style with a new opening number for season two. It’s one of 32 new tunes (!) we’ll hear once the show comes back on January 3–with 10 episodes instead of eight this time. The song, “A New Season” takes jabs at event television, Game of Thrones, and a few reality shows. Watch and listen to the tune at Deadline.

Dragons. HBO has released their “yearender” video that looks back and ahead at their series and offerings. There’s some new and shiny Game of Thrones shots in there, and we have to tear it apart because duh, it’s Game of Thrones (it starts at 2:15). It features Dany, Ramsay Bolton, and Cersei Lannister hugging her son Tommen. Read Alicia’s analysis of the new footage.

A Murder. PlayStation’s Powers is tackling a familiar storyline from the comics in season two: the death of Retro Girl. The murder of such a popular figure puts people on edge and puts everyone on the suspect list. The first look at the season previews the investigation and introduces new faces, including a villain.

Will you be watching the iZombie midseason finale tonight? What about the Sherlock holiday special? Sound off in the comments.
