TV-Cap: POWERPUFF Girls Reboot, ONCE UPON A TIME Season 5 Casting News, and More

It’s an exciting Wednesday because Hell’s Kitchen has a new addition. Marvel has made a rather exciting announcement regarding the second season of Daredevil: Punisher is coming! What a lovely day. More about that news in today’s TV-Cap as well as an update on the cast for Season 5 of Once Upon a Time, a Darth Vader-tastic Star Wars Rebels teaser, and much more.

Hey, Frank Castle, Hey. Marvel has announced a heavyweight addition to Season 2 of Daredevil. Frank Castle, a.k.a. Punisher, is coming to Hell’s Kitchen. They shared the bullet-riddled promo image above (it’s not the official logo for Season 2) with the news and revealed Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) will be playing the vigilante. Punisher is a fan favorite comic book character, and his lethal tactics fit right into the darker world of Daredevil. But will he fight alongside the Man Without Fear or cause trouble for him? We’ll have to wait to see when fresh episodes debut on Netflix in 2016. [Nerdist and Comic Book Resources]

Adventure Awaits. A whole world is waiting to be explored, and it’s never too late to start. A new NBC comedy series titled Better Late Than Never brings together William Shatner, Henry Winkler, Terry Bradshaw, George Foreman and Jeff Dye for a travel adventure. The group will travel all through Asia “in search of intimate, life-changing experiences.” They won’t have limos or anything and will apparently travel like normal folks. Huh. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Beginnings and an Ending. CBS has released its lineup of premiere dates this fall and also the date of a series finale. Let’s get the ending out of the way. CSI will take a bow with a two-hour series finale on September 27. The TV adaptation of Bradley Cooper’s Limitless will premiere on September 22. And then there’s Supergirl. The newest superhero show will debut on October 26. Get the complete premiere schedule at TheWrap.

Sith Attack. When we last saw the crew of Star Wars Rebels, they’d just discovered the existence of a bigger rebellion organization. Little did they know that Darth Vader arrived on Lothal in their absence. Season 2 premieres with a one-hour movie event titled “The Siege of Lothal” and a new 30-second teaser emphasizes the presence of the Sith. Dark times might be ahead for our rebels. [Nerdist]

Just Jessica Jones. Marvel’s next Netflix series is all about Jessica Jones, and the title has changed ever so slightly. Instead of A.K.A. Jessica Jones, it’s now Jessica Jones. [ComicBook.com]

Storybrooke Happenings. ABC’s Once Upon a Time is lining up Season 5, and they’ve made some announcements about their regular cast and who they’re looking to add. First of all, Sean Maguire and Rebecca Mader (Robin Hood and the Wicked Witch, respectively) have been upped to series regulars. Please, please let us have more than a few episodes of Regina and Robin being adorable and happy. And as far as new characters, TVLine reports the series is casting for Merlin, Arthur, and Guinevere for recurring roles. I know Idris Elba is probably a busy guy, but could you imagine him as Merlin? You can read the full details about the characters at TVLine. Then head to the comments and give me your dream casting picks.

Strange Circumstances. Season 2 of HBO’s True Detective premieres on June 21, and new promos and a synopsis give some clues as to what’s ahead. But only clues. From HBO: “A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California.” You can read character descriptions (short ones, but still!) at Variety.

Past Lives. Yet another comic book title is in development for television. We live in fine times. ReincarNATE by Michael Moreci and Keith Burns has been picked up by Buck Productions, and the self-published title has a premise I think would work well for television. In fact, you should go read the first issue of the comic and conveniently, we have it available on Nerdist for free.

Spunky Superkids Return! Cartoon Network’s reboot of The Powerpuff Girls was announced back in February, but now it’s time to see Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles and meet the voice cast–Amanda Leighton, Natalie Palamides, and Kristin Li. The designs look similar to the original series, which is good, but not all things are the same. Namely, the voice cast. The original trio–Tara Strong, E.G. Daily, and Cathy Cavadini–learned about the different cast on social media and were understandably hurt by finding out that way. [Nerdist]

What do you think about Punisher joining the world of Daredevil? And how about that casting? Let me know your opinions in the comments!
