Surprise! The season three finale of Penny Dreadful aired on Showtime last night, except it wasn’t merely the season three finale–it was also the series finale. Series creator John Logan had a plan in place a while ago–since the middle of season two, actually–on how to wrap up Vanessa’s story. Logan and Showtime president David Nevins discuss their decision to end Penny Dreadful and to not let the audience know the end was coming at TVLine.
The Night Is Dark, Full of Watermelon. Fruit carver extraordinaire (yes, it’s a thing) Valeriano Fatica has applied his masterful, mad skills to a watermelon turning a watermelon into the Night King from Game of Thrones. Superheroes Everywhere. Dying to know when all the superhero series will debut on The CW this fall? The network has released their premiere schedule, and the first and second weeks of October are gonna be hopping. Get the complete lineup here at Nerdist.
Changes. CBS is redoing their pilot of MacGyver, and they’ve scored quite the director for it. James Wan will direct the first episode of the upcoming remake; the Aquaman director was already on board as an executive producer. Have Mercy! Bob Saget and John Stamos appeared briefly in Fuller House, the continuation of the ’90s series Full House, and they’ll be back for an unspecified number of episodes season two. Yes, Netflix granted Fuller House a second season. [Deadline, Image: Candace Bure]
Covering Bases. AMC left viewers with a doozy of a cliffhanger at the end of the most recent season of The Walking Dead. Negan killed someone with his beloved Lucille, but we have no idea who. And to ensure the mystery stays under wraps, they apparently filmed the murders of all 11 main characters. Is it to keep people in the dark or is it because they haven’t decided who will bite it? Wait For It. Hamilton has turned the world upside down–the world of Broadway and musical theater, that is. A 90-minute documentary about the rise of the smash show by Lin-Manuel Miranda is coming to PBS on October 17. Hamilton’s America has been in the works since 2013, and I can’t wait to feel like I’m in the room where it happens. [Vulture]

Reunion Time. Eliza Dushku will team back up with Alan Tudyk in the next season of Con Man. The comedy’s executive producer shared pics of Dushku on the set of the web series. Season two of Con Man is slated to debut later this year on Comic-Con HQ. [Comic Book Resources, Image: PJ Haarsma]
Host with the Most. Syfy is heading to San Diego Comic-Con in a new way this summer. They’re broadcasting live from the convention every night from Thursday, July 21 – Saturday, July 23. Syfy Presents Live from Comic-Con has just named their host: Will Arnett will guide the live broadcast with interviews, exclusive content, sneak peeks, and convention news coverage.
Finally! The Emmy Awards aren’t exactly what I would call genre friendly, but that’s not the reason they’ve never included Doctor Who. The show’s British pedigree means it hasn’t been eligible, but now BBC America is co-producing the drama and the game is changing.
