TV-Cap: ORPHAN BLACK Final Season Announced, Superman Cast in SUPERGIRL, and More

We’re ending the week on a bummer. BBC America has announced the next season of Orphan Black will be the last one. I know, Clone Club, I know. Get all the details in today’s TV-Cap and stick around to find out who was cast as Superman in Supergirl, see new Samurai Jack images, get info on an Arrow cast addition, and more.

Insert Sad Face Here. Let’s rip off the bandage. Orphan Black is coming to an end with its fifth season, which will debut in 2017. All good things, right? Series co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson had a five season arc, and they’re sticking to it. On one hand, I can respect adhering to a plan instead of letting the story drag on and on, but on the other hand, it’s too bad. Orphan Black is unique in many aspects. But you know who has more thoughtful feelings about this news? Nerdist’s very own Alicia. Read what she has to say right this way.

Prepare Your Schedule. Consider this an early heads-up for your DVR programming needs: Fox has announced premiere dates for its fall 2016 season. Gotham and Lucifer will be back on September 19, and Son of Zorn will debut on September 25. Get the complete lineup at Variety.

Time for School. If you’re hooked on Activision’s Skylanders, get ready to watch the franchise make the jump to Netflix. Skylanders Academy is the first animated series from Activision, and it will debut on Netflix this fall. There will be at least two seasons of the show; it will focus on Skylanders training a new generation of cadets. [IGN]

Not a Foe. Oliver Queen will gain an ally in the form of a new district attorney in season five of Arrow. Josh Segarra has been cast as Adrian Chase. In the comics, Chase is also known as Vigilante. [Comic Book Resources]

Things Look Dark. I have a confession to make. I haven’t seen Samurai Jack. I know, I know. But I am a fan of Genndy Tartakovsky’s style, and it’s on display in these images from the animated series shown at the Annecy Festival D’Animation in France. These pieces are from the return of the series—it’s coming back with new episodes in 2016—and they’re making me realize how much I need to get on board. Dudes. Not a Bird or a Plane. Supergirl has found its Superman. Clark Kent/Superman will appear in the season two premiere of Supergirl, and he’ll be played by Tyler Hoechlin. I’m a little surprised they didn’t go with someone older, since Clark has been on Earth longer than Kara, but hey, Kryptonians probably age differently than us, right? Right. [Nerdist]

Don’t Touch the Hair. Season two of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens will drop on September 20, and it’s gained a new cast member: John Stamos has joined the party in a series regular role. [Image: Fox]

Blessed. I’m beyond giddy about American Gods, and Starz has pushed me past the tipping point with the first look at some on set action. Entertainment Weekly debuted the images from Jack’s Crocodile Bar featuring Shadow Moon, Mr. Wednesday, and Mad Sweeney. My eyes have turned into giant hearts. The Breakdown. We started today’s news with Orphan Black, and we’re going to end on the same note. The season four finale, “From Dancing Mice to Psychopaths,” aired last night and Alicia explores the solved mysteries and new reveals in her recap.
