Conspiracies. Social media. The Lazarus Pit. Have I mentioned how I love the variety of television and digital series out there? I probably have a hundred times, but I won’t be stopping any time soon. Read today’s TV-Cap to see a new promo for The X-Files revival, to learn about the return of two familiar characters on Game of Thrones, to see the poster for this year’s Treehouse of Horror episode, and more.
The Danger Is Real. One of the taglines for The X-Files is about wanting to believe, but the revival promotions are taking a different twist. They’re talking about lies and trust issues. A new promo hints that everything Mulder believed was a lie. He’s seemingly back on the hunt for the truth, and he’s pulling Scully into the fray. That scene where Scully introduces them! [Nerdist]
From Stark to Host. We all turn to social media for different reasons: for news, for entertainment, to connect with friends, and to make a difference. An original digital docu-series from the Huffington Post will focus on the latter. They’ve recruited Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones to host #PowerShift, a 10-episode series showcasing how Generation Z is using social media to bring about change around the world–not change as in saving shows from cancellation, but change as in social justice. [Variety]
Brainwashing Issues. Gotham needs more villainous people around, don’t you think? If you wanted yet one more nefarious connection, be happy because ComicBook.com learned Azrael is coming to the series. Azrael will be introduced as part of a connection to the Galavans. Gotham exec John Stephens said they’ll be diving into the Order of St. Dumas, which will lead to the Azrael plot thread. [Nerdist]
Bart Dies. It’s almost time for The Simpsons to get spooky with Treehouse of Horror XXVI. Sideshow Bob will finally succeed in killing Bart in the annual Halloween episode. It doesn’t last for long though because Bob reanimates him. There’s also some superpower-inducing exposure to radiation. In short, everything happens. The poster for the episode shows off the highlights. Does the part with Lisa and her floating instruments make anyone else think of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland? The Halloween episode airs on October 25. [Comic Book Resources]
Warning: Game of Thrones spoilers ahead.
Bringing It Back. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about season six of Game of Thrones, so let’s remedy that with a couple casting tidbits, shall we? Spanish fan site Los Siete Reinos has spotted the Blackfish, Brynden Tully, on set. Played by Clive Russell, Brynden hasn’t been seen since the Red Wedding in season three. He was spotted in a siege scene in the Riverrun area. And he’s not the only Tully making a return: Edmure, played by Tobias Menzies, has also been seen on set. Let’s hope Edmure has gained some guts since our last encounter with him. [Nerdist]
Book Return Visits. You can make a follow up appointment with ABC’s Dr. Ken. The network has picked up nine more episodes of the new comedy, giving it a grand total of 22 episodes, a.k.a. a whole first season. [Give Me My Remote]
Peeling Back Layers. USA Network’s Mr. Robot was the breakout hit of the summer–maybe the breakout hit of 2015. The hacker thriller created by Sam Esmail explored issues of reality, privacy, and humanity. Esmail was joined by cast members Rami Malek, Portia Doubleday, Christian Slater, and Carly Chaikin at PaleyFest in New York. Watch the above panel to see them discuss season one and look ahead with some vague hints about season two. [Nerdist]
A Glorious Return. Adult Swim’s The Venture Bros. has been on an extended vacation. It’s been more than two years since the last season of the animated comedy aired, but season six is finally on the way–for real! Adult Swim brought a teaser for the upcoming season (premiering in 2016) to New York Comic Con, and among other things, it shows the return of Brown Widow. [Nerdist]
A Dark Price. Laurel knows Thea has been changed by her experience in the Lazarus Pit, but it doesn’t stop her from wanting to use the restorative waters to bring Sara back. In a clip from tonight’s (October 21)Â Arrow episode “Restoration,” Nyssa al Ghul tries to warn Laurel about the consequences. It doesn’t go so well. To get further insight on Nanda Parbat drama, read TVLine’s interview with John Barrowman. [Comic Book Resources]
On the Atomic Bomb. In order to get the science right on Manhattan, WGN America works with pros. Our own Alicia Lutes talked to Alex Wellerstein and David Saltzberg while visiting the set and dove deep into the topics of nuclear energy, the Manhattan Project, and more. [Nerdist]
