TV-Cap: New GAME OF THRONES Season 5 Trailer, Lucy Lawless Joining ASH VS. EVIL DEAD, & More

Even though several genre series have the week off, there are still plenty of exciting happenings in the world of television. We have a brand new Game of Thrones trailer to drool over, and Powers is premiering today. Yes, another comic book series has arrived. It’s a fine time to be alive. Besides that news, I have updates about HBO Now, the Arrow/Flash spinoff, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and more.

The Trickster. When The Flash returns on March 17, Barry Allen will be facing the Weather Wizard. But it doesn’t stop there. A new preview from The CW teases what’s ahead for the remainder of the season and it includes the introduction of Captain Cold’s sister, the Golden Glider, and the Trickster. Mark Hamill is reprising his role as Trickster from the 1990 version of The Flash, and the preview features some imagery of that appearance. I need more The Flash right now, darn it! [CBR]

Heroes and Villains. Powers debuts today on the PlayStation Network. The series based on the comic of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming is set in a world where superpowers are commonplace, and superheroes–known as Powers–are treated liked celebrities. And where there are heroes, there are villains. Read Scott’s review of the pilot and then read Dan’s interview with Powers villain Eddie Izzard.

The Roster Expands. It looks like the Arrow/The Flash spinoff project (I can’t wait until we have a title!) will have at least three more heroes. TVLine has learned about new mystery characters that will join The Atom, Captain Cold, Canary, and Dr. Martin Stein in the series. They’re described as The Traveler, Female Warrior, and Mystery Hero. Read the complete character descriptions at TVLine.

Zombie Companions. AMC has placed a two-season order for a spinoff of The Walking Dead. The series doesn’t have a title yet, but we know it will be set in Los Angeles and follow new characters and storylines. The first season has six episodes and will premiere this year, specifically in the late summer. It stars Cliff Curtis (Sean Cabrera), Kim Dickens (Nancy), Frank Dillane (Nick), and Alycia Debnam Carey (Ashley). No specifics are available about the plot just yet, but it seems likely that we’ll learn how the apocalypse happens. [/Film]

Cut Part of the Cable Cord. HBO NOW is officially almost here. The network’s standalone streaming service will debut exclusively on Apple TV and iOS devices and is priced at $14.99 per month. The service should be available in early April, hopefully before Season 5 of Game of Thrones premieres on April 12. [Nerdist]

Autolycus and Xena! Bruce Campbell’s Ash vs. Evil Dead has gained a new star: Lucy Lawless! She’s been cast as Ruby in the Starz series. According to Deadline, Ruby is “a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks.” And she believes Ash is responsible for it. Yikes. The series starts filming in New Zealand later this year, and given the setting and that Campbell and Lawless are co-starring, I can’t help but think of Xena: Warrior Princess. [Nerdist]

Eat Like Don Draper. Mad Men is about to head into its final episodes, and New York City restaurants are saying good-bye in style. More than 30 locations will participate in Mad Men Dining Week from March 23-29. Fixed lunch menus will feature food and drink inspired by favorites from the 1960s; you’ll get two courses and two cocktails for $19.69. Make reservations at NYC Go. [Variety]

Break the Wheel. When Apple announced their partnership with HBO NOW yesterday, they did so by showing off a shiny new trailer for Game of Thrones Season 5. Yes, they know the way to our hearts. Daenerys Targaryen is the focus of the almost two minutes of footage, and I can’t wait to see her continue to grow as a leader in the next season. [Nerdist]

Who else is looking forward to an Autolycus and Xena reunion? Head to the comments and share your thoughts on Lucy Lawless joining Ash vs. Evil Dead.
