Happy day after Back to the Future Day, everyone! Hopefully you didn’t party too hard or get overheated from wearing a puffy Marty McFly vest all day yesterday. Settle back into the present by catching up on today’s TV news including a look at the arrival of the new Firestorm on next week’s The Flash, Jessica Jones key art, an update on MythBusters, and more.
A Brewing Storm. Netflix has released key art for Marvel’s Jessica Jones in video and still image forms, and the lovely art is channeling the dreamy, watercolor covers from the comic Alias by David Mack. They also announced that we’ll get a full trailer for the show on Friday, October 23. If the teasers have already made me anticipate the series, I’m looking forward to seeing what the trailer will do. [Slashfilm]
A Light Touch. Looking for a low-key way to celebrate Halloween? Forget parties and costumes and plan some television and movie binging! A ton of shows have Halloween-themed episodes, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They didn’t lean into the holiday as much as you might think, but when they did, it was pretty spectacular. Read all about Halloween on Buffy the Vampire Slayer right this way.
Host with the Most. The 88th Academy Awards have a leading man. Chris Rock will host the 2016 Oscars ceremony. He’s done so once before in 2005. I’ll miss Neil Patrick Harris’s musical numbers, but it’s smart to change it up–especially since ratings weren’t super amazing last year. [Variety]
Who’s a Match? The last episode of The Flash found Martin Stein in a compromised position. He needs someone else to split his Firestorm-ness with, and since Ronnie is gone, the S.T.A.R. Labs team has to recruit. Enter Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson. The above clip for next week’s episode, “The Fury of Firestorm,” shows his arrival. [Comic Book Resources]
Going Backwards. Looking ahead to next week’s The Flash is great, but what about this week’s episode? The Snarts were present in full force to cause trouble in Central City. They might be my favorite rogues on television–especially Captain Cold. Read Joseph’s review of “Family of Rogues.”
Sure, Why Not? I can’t keep up with the number of movies or movie-related stories headed to television. The list has to be massive now. It just grew by one because NBC has ordered a pilot script for a series that would be a sequel to Cruel Intentions. Yes, as in the movie with Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon. The plot would follow the son of Sebastian and Annette as he discovers his legacy. Huh. The series does have the movie’s writer and director on board so at least there’s that. [TVLine]
Going Undercover. Bridget Regan is no stranger to playing action-oriented ladies in charge. She was a force of a nature in Agent Carter (and probably will be again in Season 2), and now she’ll be a diplomatic force in TNT’s The Last Ship. She’ll be joining Season 3 of the drama as a series regular. Regan will play Sasha; according to Deadline, Sasha is “a former Navy Intelligence Officer now operating under diplomatic cover in China for the newly reformed United States government.” [Deadline]
Being Brave. Merida is in officially in Storybrooke in this week’s Once Upon a Time. Images from “Dreamcatcher” show Merida facing Mr. Gold. She’s there to make him brave. How wonderful would a training montage be? I don’t think it’s going to happen, but I can hope. See more photos from the episode at TVLine.
Off to See the Wizard. In case you’ve forgotten, NBC is working on a Game of Thrones-esque style adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. The 10-episode limited series called Emerald City will go the dark and gritty route. I’m not sold, but they just cast the uber-talented Vincent D’Onofrio as the Wizard, so I’m warming up to the idea. No More Myths. The next season of MythBusters will be the final one. Discovery Channel has canceled the experiment-based series hosted by Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. It’s been airing for 14 years, so I guess its time has come. I guess. I’m sure Hyneman and Savage will find other ways to keep bringing science into our homes. [Nerdist]
