It’s a day to be happy because things in the realm of television updates are grand. Yes, I said grand. Read today’s TV-Cap to learn about the hint Ian McShane dropped regarding his character on Game of Thrones, to see a glorious photo from season two of Agent Carter, to watch a clip about the return of Grodd to The Flash, and much more.
Oh, Sweet Summer Child. Ian McShane will join the cast of Game of Thrones in the upcoming sixth season, and he made the mistake of giving up one tiny piece of information. Or maybe it was intentional? McShane told Pop Goes the News the following about his character, “I’ll give you one hint. I am responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you’re never going to see again. I’ll leave it at that.” Even though that’s quite telling, there are enough potential candidates to keep his identity secret. We’re so intrigued! [Nerdist]
Gold and Green. NBC is again tackling a live production this holiday season. The subject this time is The Wiz Live! starring the likes of Uzo Aduba (Glinda), Queen Latifah (The Wiz), and Common (Bouncer). A Key Kid. Outlander has cast a brief but important role for season two: John William Grey. Oscar Kennedy will play the young boy who encounters Claire and Jamie. The character eventually comes back into their lives as an adult in the books, but for now, we’ll likely just get a few scenes with him. [TVLine]
Heading West. Netflix has lined up their next original drama. They’ll be adding the western genre to their offerings with Frontier. Set in the 18th century, the series stars Jason Momoa and will be directed by Brad Peyton. Netflix says the adventure drama follows “the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. Told from multiple perspectives, the series takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.” This sounds like the perfect show for Momoa. Given the freedom the streaming service has in comparison to a television network and the way they’re describing the series, I expect violence. The first season will have six episodes. The Official Return. Finally! You can plan your January because we have a set return date for Agent Carter. Season two of the ABC series will premiere on Tuesday, January 5 with a two-hour episode. It will air in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s place, and that series will come back from its midseason break on March 8. It’s Here! AMC’s Into the Badlands starring Daniel Wu finally premiered, and it received a ton of positive buzz — Twitter was practically exploding with mentions about it. If you tuned in and/or aren’t afraid of spoilers, read Blair’s review of the premiere episode called “The Fort.”
DNA Gives It Away. Grodd is back. The scary villain that looks better than any CGI gorilla on television has a right to returns to The Flash in “Gorilla Warfare.” The above clip doesn’t have Grodd, but it does have people freaking about Grodd and Cisco talking about Caitlin punching him in the face. All the Heroes. This year’s The Flash/Arrow crossover is sounding more epic than the crazy fun of the first crossover last year. I didn’t know that was possible. Talking to TV Insider, Flash/Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “It’s a superhero a-go-go!” He teased the dynamic between the two teams, the logistics, and a twist. More Mythology. After the introduction of the Promethean spark in Once Upon a Time, some fans guessed more Greek mythology would be on the way. They’re right. Hercules and Megara are coming to the fairy tale series, and they’ll be played by Jonathan Whitesell and Kacey Rohl. This lends more support to the idea that Greg Germann will play Hades. Hercules and Megara will come onto the scene in the thirteenth episode this season. Also coming up: the return of Bailee Madison as young Snow White. [ET Online]
