Do you even know how much television news dropped at Comic-Con? I don’t have anything close to an exact amount, so let’s just say it was a lot. Maybe all the news. Since I was running around at the convention, I’m catching up just like all of you. I grabbed some of the big highlights to share in today’s TV-Cap, and we’ll keep going tomorrow. But for now, let’s start with the trailer for Heroes Reborn, casting and plot news for the next seasons of The Flash and Arrow, a look at Ash vs Evil Dead, and much more.
Let’s Tango. The first trailer for Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead is here, and it is spectacular and maybe beyond description. I can’t stop smiling! Bruce Campbell is back as Ash Williams and he’s still rocking all the right kinds of mojo necessary to take down deadites and everything else. He has a team, sass, and his boomstick — and also, there’s a ridiculously wonderful amount of blood. The series will premiere on October 31. [Nerdist]
A Little Rivalry. Supergirl has added another character from DC Comics to its ranks with Maxwell Lord. In this universe, he’s a billionaire who made his money in the tech world. According to TV Fanatic, Lord “enjoys a friendly rivalry with Cat Grant” and “is fascinated by Supergirl.” He’ll be played by Peter Facinelli. [TV Fanatic]
How It Starts. The world is starting to fall apart in Fear the Walking Dead. The Walking Dead spinoff prequel takes place in Los Angeles just as things are starting to go awry. The first full trailer for the series emphasizes the family connections and the beginning of zombie apocalypse — people think it’s just the flu. This means every time there’s a flu outbreak in the future, I’ll be worried about zombies. Actually, I already do that. Fear the Walking Dead will premiere on August 23 on AMC. [Nerdist]
Changing It Up. Oliver Queen is getting a new costume for Season 4 of Arrow. Warner Bros. revealed the look Saturday night at Comic-Con, and I’m a fan. Oliver’s getting short sleeves and gauntlets. The design by Maya Mani is sleek, but it does look like there are more pieces to take on and off that mannequin. [Comic Book Resources]
Pre-Westeros. Now that we’ve had five seasons of Game of Thrones, we’re so used to seeing the actors of the series in character that it’s weird to imagine when they weren’t Brienne of Tarth or Margaery Tyrell. But, if you’d like to go back in time, you can thanks to recently released audition tapes. HBO shared the footage during the Game of Thrones panel at Comic-Con, and I can’t get over it — especially Gwendoline Christie. She’s so intimidating even with just a few lines. [Nerdist]
In a Hurry. Barry Allen and company will have plenty to keep them occupied in the next season of The Flash. Several details were dropped about the future, including the reveal of Season 2’s villain. Zoom will be the STAR Labs team’s next threat, and the character is faster than any other metahuman. He’s able to appear courtesy of the wormhole that was opened at the end of Season 1, a thing that will allow characters from Earth 2 to appear — like Jay Garrick. Awesome, right? Garrick will be played by Teddy Sears. In other casting news, Shantel VanSanten will play Patty Spivot, Barry’s new love interest. [TVLine]
Clones Just Wanna Have Fun. Overall, Orphan Black is a dark show. There are brighter, more lighthearted moments, but tragedy and drama make up the heavier side of the scale. That said, the series isn’t afraid to embrace its silly side. They cut together a few parody clips like the one above that have to be seen rather than described. Trust me, it’s worth watching. Career Choices. Once you’re a warrior knight, you’re always a warrior knight. That’s the distilled premise behind FX’s Bastard Executioner. The medieval drama from Kurt Sutter follows a knight who tries to lay down his sword but is forced to enter the fray once again. Lee Jones plays the knight, and you can get a glimpse of him in the first look at the series. It will debut in September. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Meet the Dragon. Hannibal is well into its last season, and we’re getting closer to the Red Dragon. The character played by Richard Armitage is a big part of the world created by author Thomas Harris, and NBC debuted a lengthy clip looking ahead to his arrival. It’s chilling. [Nerdist]
A Different World. People with enhanced abilities aren’t celebrated or even welcomed in Heroes Reborn. The creator and cast from the upcoming NBC event series came to Comic-Con and revealed the series will take place five years after Heroes ended. Evolved humans are on the run — government and vigilantes want to track them down — and they’re being killed. I wasn’t sure about the sequel, but the first trailer is promising. What do you think?
