TV-Cap: HEROES REBORN Brings Back Mohinder Suresh, Fox Announces Comic-Con TV Lineup, & More

The fall television season is a good three to four months away, but new episodes of everything will be here before we know it. Filming for those episodes is starting soon, and that means announcements about new cast members and new recurring roles will roll out over June and July. For example, Luke Mitchell is getting bumped up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Read more about that, what Fox TV is bringing to Comic-Con, the 24 spinoff, and more in today’s TV-Cap.

A Dangerous Joyride. The penultimate episode of Season 1 of iZombie airs tonight, June 2, and Liv and Detective Babineaux investigate the death of a teenager. While they search for her killer, Major starts to realize Blaine’s butcher shop isn’t as adorable and innocent as its name (it’s called Meat Cute). Photos from the episode show Bex Taylor-Klaus, Sin from Arrow, will make a guest appearance. See more pics from “Dead Rat, Live Rat, Brown Rat, White Right” at TV Fanatic.

Prepare Yourself. Comic-Con International will descend upon San Diego in just over a month. We won’t see the programming schedule for at least another two weeks, but studios are starting to announce which series they’re bringing to the party. Fox is first out of the gate and they aren’t kidding around with their slate. They’re bringing: American Horror Story, Scream Queens (a panel and the world premiere), Bob’s Burgers, Salem, Sleepy Hollow, Minority Report, The Simpsons, and more. See the full lineup as well as talent expected to attend at Give Me My Remote.

Thoroughly Spooked. I spent the last 20 minutes of the last Game of Thrones episode, “Hardhome,” frozen in place. I guess I breathed, but I don’t remember doing so. I don’t want to say what caused that reaction because spoilers, but if you’ve already watched “Hardhome,” relive the riveting twist with Alicia’s recap.

Inhuman Promotion. One Inhuman is moving on up in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Luke Mitchell has been promoted to series regular for Season 3 which means Lincoln will be around more. Perhaps he’ll be on Skye/Daisy’s new secret team? [Deadline]

Another Familiar Face. Heroes Reborn keeps adding cast members from the original series, and I am so on board with their latest return. Sendhil Ramamurthy will be back as geneticist Mohinder Suresh. He has a “guest arc” on the event miniseries. Ramamurthy has also signed onto Stan Lee’s Lucky Man in a series regular role. [Comic Book Resources]

Say It Isn’t So. It looks like Netflix is dipping their toe into the world of ads. Well, trailers. Cord Cutters News reported Netflix was running ads before and after videos, but Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, posted on Facebook, “No advertising coming onto Netflix. Period. Just adding relevant cool trailers for other Netflix content you are likely to love.” But aren’t trailers ads? It’s not the same as a commercial for a product, and maybe Netflix isn’t getting any money for airing those trailers? Maybe? [Slashfilm]

Fancy New Names. Keeping track of the comic book animated series currently airing can be tricky. They swap out regularly, there are a plethora of adjectives, and sometimes the names just change. Example: Disney XD has renewed Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Avengers Assemble for 2016, but they have different titles. Ultimate Spider-Man is now Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6 for Season 4, and Avengers Assemble is Avengers: Ultron Revolution for Season 3. No, that’s not confusing at all. Who Needs Jack Bauer? Fox has found success with 24, and they’re not letting go. They’re working on a new spinoff that would launch as a limited series like 24: Live Another Day, but there’s one big change. Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer is out of the picture. The show would revolve around a new male terrorist hunter. I’d rather see a female in the role because variety is neat, but I like that we’re moving away from Bauer. [TVLine]

Meet the Kids. Disney Channel has announced the premiere date for Descendants. The TV movie about the children of notorious Disney villains Evil Queen, Maleficent, Jafar, and Cruella de Vil will air on Friday, July 31 at 8:00pm ET. [TV Insider]
