TV-Cap: GAME OF THRONES Season Count, THE FLASH Season 1 Gag Reel, & More

If you were HBO and you had a wildly successful series like Game of Thrones in your pocket, would you ever let it go? No. No, you would not. You’d want the series to last as long as possible, and it seems like that’s what the network is doing.

Read today’s TV-Cap to find out about HBO’s plans for Westeros, to watch a hilarious gag reel for The Flash, and to learn about the live exorcism coming to your television this Halloween (seriously).

Dancing and Cursing. The Flash is my favorite superhero series on television right now because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. They know how to laugh. That’s extra true in the Season 1 gag reel that will be included on the September 22nd Blu-ray release. It’s eight minutes of spontaneous dancing, screwing up lines (so much science-y jargon!), and running into things–watching it has made my Friday. [Nerdist]

Maintaining the Peace. Amazon is adapting the Edge series of books by George Gilman, and they’ve found the female lead for the western. Yvonne Strahovski will play Pinkerton detective Beth. She’s a newcomer to the show’s setting in Seward, Kansas. Strahovski will start opposite Max Martini (Josiah Hedges/Edge) and Ryan Kwanten (Merritt Harknett). As a fan of period westerns and the tremendous costumes that usually come with them, I’m curious to see the pilot. [Variety]

A Catch. NBC is dedicated to making their take on The Wiz the best adaptation it can be. They’ve already snagged Queen Latifah, Stephanie Mills, and Mary J. Blige for the live musical broadcast, and they’re apparently pursuing Beyoncé. It’s all rumors right now, but according to Vanity Fair, they want the star to play Glinda the Good Witch. [Nerdist]

Consolation Selfie. Lucy Lawless recently stopped rumors about the possibility of a Xena: Warrior Princess reboot, but she shared a photo of her with Renee O’Connor on Instagram to make everything better. Aww, Gabrielle and Xena forever. [TVLine]

A Helping Hand. Good news for Season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Blair Underwood will return for multiple episodes. Underwood plays Andrew, a doctor and Melinda May’s ex-husband. Given the nature of S.H.I.E.L.D., I’m sure he’s not back because he and May have found a lasting happily-ever-after solution. [Variety]

On and On It Spins. HBO isn’t breaking the wheel anytime soon. Though there has been talk in the past of Game of Thrones sticking to a seven-season run, that’s not necessarily the limit. At the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour this week, HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo said there would be at least seven seasons–maybe even more than eight. “Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the conversation. The question is how much beyond seven are we going to do. [Showrunners] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] are feeling like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds. That’s what we’re looking at right now.” He basically sounds like he would be pleased for the show to go on forever and forever–ratings make a difference. [Nerdist]

The End. Continuum is wrapping its run with Season 4, and the Syfy series is getting an abbreviated goodbye. It will be a six-episode season–roughly half the length of previous seasons. You can watch the first trailer for Season 4 above. The final season will premiere on September 11th on Syfy. [TVLine]

Building a Community. The Season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead doesn’t shamble onto AMC until October 11th, but you can pass the time by staring at new photos released by Entertainment Weekly. The images featuring Rick, Daryl, Michonne, and Morgan are begging to be over-analyzed. What’s happening in Alexandria? How safe is the safe zone? Examine the pics above and see more at Comic Book Resources.

Not a Meet Cute. The interesting history between Peter Quill and Yondu was alluded to in Guardians of the Galaxy, and now you can see more about their initial run-in. A series of origin story shorts are being released ahead of the debut of the Guardians animated series on Disney XD, and a clip from Star-Lord’s origin shows just what went down. You can see the rest of the story when it airs on Disney XD on August 1st. Keep in mind this isn’t Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, so this story and other origins could be explored differently on the big screen. [Entertainment Tonight]

Evil Spirits, Be Gone! Oh boy. If you’re ready for some good old-fashioned demon wrestling, you’re in luck because Destination America is planning to host the first ever live televised exorcism in U.S. history. It’s so shocking that this hasn’t been done before (please know I typed that sentence with every ounce of sarcasm I could muster). They’ll air Exorcism: Live! on October 30th, and it will take place at the original Exorcist House in Missouri. A team will attempt to get rid of any and all spirits and demons calling the house home.

In your ideal world, how many seasons would you like to see Game of Thrones last? Let me know in the comments.
