TV-Cap: First Look at Mulder and Scully in X-FILES, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER on ABC Family

You’re not even going to believe how much TV news is in the air today. Casting news, photos, premiere dates—we have it all. Let’s get to it. Today’s TV-Cap has your first look at Mulder and Scully in The X-Files, a promo for season 2 of Playing House, news about Warner Bros. Television’s schedule at Comic-Con, another character return for Heroes Reborn, and much more.

Hello, Friends. Now that production is in full swing for The X-Files, it looks like fans are in for so many teases thanks to social media. I, for one, am OK with this. The official X-Files Twitter account shared the first look at David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back in their Mulder and Scully personas. Isn’t it a beautiful thing? [Twitter]

Strong As Hell. Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt nabbed a lot of attention for its oddball characters and quirky twists, and it sounds like we’ll be in for more of that in season two. Executive producer Jack Burditt recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and said they’ll get more into Titus’s past and his wife, the background of Lillian, and introduce Kimmy’s mom. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Casting Galore. If you follow Outlander, you know Jamie and Claire Fraser are on their way to France for season two. That means a bevy of new faces, and several of them were just announced. Here we go: Dominique Piñon will play Master Raymond, Romann Berrux will play Fergus, Andrew Gower will play the Bonnie Prince Charlie, and Rosie Day will play Mary Hawkins. All of these characters are right from the books by Diana Gabaldon so if you want to get a head start on season two, go read Dragonfly in Amber right now. [Diana Gabaldon and Access Hollywood]

All the Grim Expressions. Look, Westeros isn’t a cheerful place. If a character is smiling in a promotional photo for an episode of Game of Thrones, the chances of something awful happening to that character increase significantly. It’s just the way it is. There are all sorts of serious looks in pictures from the season five finale, and they’re begging for speculation and analysis. See more pictures from the finale right here at Nerdist.

A Bad Sign. Remember Angela Petrelli? Of course you do. The mother of Nathan and Peter in Heroes was a force of nature and not in the nice, ray of sunshine way. Cristine Rose played the character, and she’s back for Heroes Reborn. Like everything else about the series, we don’t know much about her exact role yet, but I’m looking forward to seeing what she has up her sleeve. [TVLine]

Sweet Memories. Who’s ready to curl up in a blanket of nostalgia? ABC Family’s here to help because they’re going to be airing Dawson’s Creek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer five days a week beginning on June 29. Dawson’s Creek will air at 12:00pm ET/PT and Buffy will air at 5:00pm ET/PT. Think of how many new fans might be introduced to these dramatic gems! And think about how many times you’ll be flipping through the channels and end up watching entire episodes! [TV Insider]

The Fight Continues. September seems so very far away right now, but fall premieres will be here in the blink of an eye. ABC’s released their schedule and while you can take a gander at the entire list at Deadline, I thought you might like to know Agents of S.H.I.EL.D. season three will premiere on September 29. [Comic Book Resources]

Best in Show. Sometimes I forget how many series Warner Bros. Television has their hands in, and then I see their Comic-Con schedule. It’s packed. They’re bringing the Supergirl pilot as well as Lucifer, The 100, iZombie, Arrow, Supernatural, Legends of Tomorrow, and so much more to the convention. Whew. Get the full list of times and locations at Variety.

Thank You! USA’s comedy Playing House is all about friendship–specifically the friendship between Maggie Caruso and Emma Crawford. We’re fans of the series, and the proof is in the above Playing House season two promo. The show will be back with more laughs in August.

More Episodes. The Showtime comedy Episodes is getting more episodes (and I’m sure I’m the first person to make that joke). The series starring Matt LeBlanc has been picked up for a nine-episode season five. [Deadline]

Impressive, Most Impressive. Syfy might be leveling up. They’ve announced they’re adapting the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons for television. They have quite the list of talent to help them out with the monumental task ahead. Bradley Cooper, Todd Phillips, Graham King, and Itamar Moses will executive produce the series. Moses is slated to write the initial script. I admit I’m still a little surprised anytime Syfy brings in more sci-fi, and I’m completely on board with this project. You can read more details at Cinema Blend.

In the Spotlight. Sundance TV’s Rectify returns for season three soon, and the drama picks up right after the events of the season two finale. Daniel Holden’s plea deal is up in the air, and when the body of a missing person is discovered, he’s put right back under the magnifying glass. The third season will debut on July 9. If you’re not familiar with Rectify, you can catch up over the Fourth of July weekend with a marathon. Seasons 1 and 2 will kick off on Sundance TV on July 4 at 2:00pm ET/PT.
