TV-Cap: First Look at David Tennant in A.K.A. JESSICA JONES, Katee Sackhoff to Create and Star in New Sci-Fi Series, & More

Game of Thrones is back, the Season 3 premiere of Orphan Black is around the corner, The Flash and Arrow return this week–it’s a fine time to be a fan of sci-fi, fantasy, and superhero stuff. What’s going to happen this summer when most series go on hiatus though? Yes, I’m already looking ahead. In some ways, I’m relieved about having a less crowded TiVo. I already know I’ll be watching Daredevil again and probably adding new series to my list. But I have a couple of months to figure it out. Let’s focus on the present and catch up on news! Today’s TV-Cap features the first look at David Tennant as The Purple Man, a Superhero Fight Club clip for Arrow and The Flash, and news about Katee Sackhoff’s in-development sci-fi series.

Call Him Professor Plum. Purple suits Doctor Who’s David Tennant. The actor was recently spotted on the set of Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones in his Purple Man attire. Also known as Dr. Zebediah Killgrave (man, that name sounds so evil), the character is “an enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past.” No pressure, Tennant, but after Vincent D’Onofrio’s performance as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil, the villain standards are high. Nothin’ But the Rain. Move over, Starbuck. Katee Sackhoff is taking matters into her own hands and creating a sci-fi series called Rain. Oh, and she’ll be starring in it too because she’s the bee’s knees. The futuristic dystopian series is told through the eyes of a soldier named Rain and will show “how the long-term effects of global warming, the burning of fossil fuels, and the scientific manipulation of nature’s balance rot the world and contribute to its decline.” Let’s hope a network picks this up soon. Demon Hunters. If you’ve been lamenting the lack of human-angel hybrids on television, you don’t need to worry any longer. Shadowhunters is coming to ABC Family with McG (Supernatural) in the director’s chair for the pilot. He and Ed Decter will produce the series that’s a spinoff of the film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. Shadowhunters focuses on Clary Fray, the human-angel hybrid referenced above, who is also destined to be a demon hunter. [Deadline]

Going Full Hornhead. I don’t plan to stop talking about Marvel’s Daredevil anytime soon so… be prepared for that. Today, we’re taking a look at N official image released by Marvel and Netflix that showS off Matt Murdock’s full Daredevil suit. I can’t wait for this to show up in the series (I’m six episodes in). And while we’re talking Daredevil, remember that long hallway fight at the end of the second episode? It’s a magnificent bit of stunt work and Peter Sciretta spoke to Steven DeKnight and Charlie Cox about how it was shot. Read the interview at /Film.

Bowing Out. Are you ready to say good-bye to Top Ten lists? Because David Letterman’s getting into his last weeks as the host of the Late Show on CBS and they might be gone forever soon. To make the exit feel more real, the list of Letterman’s final guests have been announced and there are some impressive names. The line-up includes Jack Hanna (whoa, he’s still making the rounds?!), George Clooney, Robert Downey, Jr., Tina Fey, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jerry Seinfeld, and more. Get the entire list at Radio.com.

Superhero Fight Club. It wouldn’t be a day that ends in “y” without some kind of tidbit about The Flash or Arrow. What will I do this summer when both shows are on hiatus? I’ll deal with that problem then but for now, I recommend sitting back to enjoy this fun Superhero Fight Club clip that features our heroes blowing off some steam. [CBR]

The Changing Tide. I’m going to guess a large percentage of you were glued to your televisions on Sunday night to watch the Season 4 premiere of Game of Thrones. The episode took the usual fast-paced meander around Westeros and beyond and moved all the pawns into place. If you’ve watched the episode (and only if you’ve watched the episode), read Alicia’s recap and take a gander at photos from “The Wars to Come.”

Do you think Marvel will stick to having The Purple Man in purple clothes in A.K.A. Jessica Jones or will they turn his skin purple, too? Let me know what you think in the comments.
