TV-Cap: Elektra Joins DAREDEVIL, Harry Shearer Returns to THE SIMPSONS, & More

Why wait until Comic-Con to drop entertainment news? I’m pretty sure that’s what most of the industry said yesterday. Besides learning about a certain upcoming Han Solo film, there were also headlines about Elektra coming to Season 2 of Daredevil, a deal that means Harry Shearer is back on board for The Simpsons, and the first peek at footage from The X-Files revival. Read about all those tidbits in today’s TV-Cap:

Don’t Stop Believing. The best way to prepare for new episodes of The X-Files is to watch all the existing episodes, and Fox is here to help. They’re airing one installment a day until the revival premieres on January 24. That’s 201 episodes of Mulder and Scully goodness. And bonus: the promo video has the tiniest bit of new footage. No Resurrection. ABC’s Forever is not lasting that long. The show was canceled by ABC after one season and though series creator Matt Miller hoped to find a new home for the Ioan Gruffudd supernatural drama, it’s not to be. He tweeted, “This is a hard message to write but I’m sorry to report that despite Warner Bros. best efforts they haven’t been able to find a new home for Forever. That doesn’t mean they won’t keep trying, but I wanted to give you all the real, although disheartening, news.” You can read the complete note from Matt at TVLine.

More Joy and Weirdness. Let’s bring balance to the Force with good news. Cartoon Network has passed out a handful of renewals: Adventure Time and Regular Show get Season 8, Steven Universe and Uncle Grandpa will return for Season 3, and Clarence will be back for Season 2. All the quirky cartoons! [Deadline]

Possessed. Though Robert Kirkman has had to cancel his Comic-Con appearances, his projects will still be there in force. Aside from The Walking Dead and its spinoff, there will be a peek at the upcoming series Outcast. The Cinemax adaptation is based on a comic of the same name by Kirkman and artist Paul Azaceta. Though the supernatural series doesn’t premiere until 2016, Cinemax will bring the executive producers and cast to the con–they’ve also revealed some key art for the occasion. [Nerdist]

Welcome to L.A. Photos and footage from Fear the Walking Dead is trickling out as AMC tries to hype up excitement for their pre-zombie outbreak Walking Dead spinoff, and to that end, they’ve released a behind-the-scenes video. You can some glimpses of new scenes and a thorough look at the setting. [Comic Book Resources]

This Had to Happen. Season 2 of Daredevil has The Punisher and now we know it also has Elektra Natchios. The character has a history with Matt Murdock in the comics so I hoped against hope she would be featured in the Netflix series. Elodie Yung has been cast as the character described as “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.” And though it looks like Yung is dressed as Elektra in the featured image, that’s her as Jinx in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. [Nerdist]

All the Blood. As you would expect, Ash vs Evil Dead is looking awfully bloody. Entertainment Weekly has posted two new images from the Starz series, and the red stuff is everywhere. One image features Pablo (Ray Santiago) in Ash’s (Bruce Campbell) car, and yes, the Classic is back. It’s director Sam Raimi’s ’73 Delta 88. So. Fancy. Stay tuned to the interwebs on Friday because that’s when a trailer for the series will arrive. [/Film]

So Many Options. Dark Horse Entertainment has a large comic book library that includes franchises such as Hellboy and The Mask, and Universal Cable Productions is targeting that library. They’ve signed a first-look deal with Dark Horse to develop and produce scripted programming based on existing titles and new material. Deadline reports they already have four projects in the works: Harrow County, The Umbrella Academy, Back Up, and Concrete. [Deadline]

Insert Relieved Sigh Here. Remember when Harry Shearer left The Simpsons and it was the worst? We can put those sad times behind us because Shearer, as well as the rest of the voice cast, have signed two year contracts to keep them in Springfield for Seasons 27 and 28 of the animated series. I shall celebrate this news with a Duff beer–if I can find a Duff beer. [Nerdist]

Are you excited that Elektra’s coming to Daredevil? Head to the comments and let me know how you think she’ll fit into the story.
