TV-Cap: DOCTOR WHO Comes Under Fire, Minnie Driver Joins PETER PAN, and ATLANTIS Gets a Release Date

Thank goodness it’s Thursday, amirite, TV-Cap lovers? That means it’s almost Friday, which means it’s almost the weekend. In order to get you through the next few hours of work and the like, we figured — hey! — what better time than now to let you in on what’s going on in the small screen world, right? There’s much to get excited about after all, such as the controversy surrounding Doctor Who‘s “Dark Water” episode, the arrival of Minnie Driver to NBC’s live Peter Pan LIVE! adaptation (yes, really), and more than a few enticing tidbits about everything else going on in the world of TV. In fact it’s all quite British, so sit back, grab a cuppa, and relax — we’ve got you covered and aren’t afraid to be servicey, folks. Cheerio!

The Comeback Comes…Well…Back: Lisa Kudrow’s cult hit HBO series is returning to television this weekend, which is a very good thing. But given its cult status (read: not too many people watched it in its prime), you may or may not have missed it and want to know what all the fuss is about. Well if you’re short on binge-watching time, why not check out this refresher? It’ll help you to figure out who the heck this Valerie Cherish character is before The Comeback‘s Sunday premiere. NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE: There’s a show on Discovery called Eaten Alive and it’s about a dude who gets eaten — alive! — by a giant anaconda. Apparently he’s safe because of his “snake suit” (whatever that means) but OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT?

I’m going to have nightmares forever BYEEEEEEEEEE.

Don’t Test the Doctor: So, apparently Saturday’s part one of the two-part Doctor Who finale ruffled some feathers for its dark edges. (Really?) But instead of apologizing, they shut all those whiners down. And well they should! Here’s what they said:
Doctor Who is a family drama with a long tradition of tackling some of the more fundamental questions about life and death. We were mindful of the themes explored in ‘Dark Water’ and are confident that they are appropriate in the context of the heightened sci-fi world of the show. The scene in which a character reveals 3W’s unconventional theory about the afterlife was preceded by the same character warning the Doctor and Clara several times that what they were about to hear could be distressing. When the Doctor does hear these claims, he immediately pours scorn on them, dismissing them out of hand as a ‘con’ and a ‘racket.’ It transpires that he is correct, and the entire concept is revealed to be a scam perpetrated by Missy.” And you know what? Good on them! [Pajiba]

Egg?: We’ve got the ~exclusive~ reveal of the Arrested Development season 4 DVD box set cover art! (Say that five times fast.) [Nerdist]

One More Awkward Encounter: Instead of giving Hello Ladies a full season of continual Stephen Merchant bumbling awkwardness, HBO’s decided to give it a mini-movie. And now we’ve got a trailer! Hello Internet.

Minnie Heads to Neverland: Not only will she narrate the whole affair (what a coup for our collective eardrums), but she’ll also play the all-grown-up Wendy Darling in NBC’s Peter Pan Live. Aww MINNIE! [Entertainment Weekly]

Good News for Impatient People: The BBC and BBC America are doing a very smart thing — premiering the second season of Atlantis the same day in the US and the UK. Saturday, November 15, 9:00pm ET. Yay!

So who else wants to crawl into a hole after that Eaten Alive trailer? Let’s comfort each other in the comments.
