TV-Cap: DOCTOR WHO at San Diego Comic-Con, GRACE AND FRANKIE Renewed, & More

Prepare your minds and your bodies because San Diego Comic-Con is only six weeks away. That means we’re about four weeks from getting any kind of complete schedule, but networks and studios are starting to let us who will have panels. The teases will help you plan how much time you’ll spend waiting in line.

If seeing Doctor Who in Hall H is on your list, you should consider heading to San Diego now, basically. Keep reading to find out about who the time traveling series is bringing to the convention, see the Twin Peaks opening credits done in paper, and learn about new villains coming to Season 2 of Gotham.

So Glamorous. History is headed toward laughter this summer. Riki Lindhome and Natasha Leggero are starring in Comedy Central’s Another Period. The show premieres on June 23 at 10:30pm, and the official synopsis says Another Period “follows the lives of the obscenely rich Bellacourt family and their many servants in turn-of-the-century Rhode Island.” It’s a “historical satire about narcissistic aristocrats and the poor souls in their employ.” Watch the trailer above to get the briefest tease of what’s ahead. I hope they have a grumpy Mr. Carson stand-in. [Uproxx]

Go, Speed Racer! Get ready to fly around the track again because Tatsunoko Production is bringing us a modern take on the Speed Racer cartoon. There aren’t many other details available about the upcoming animated series — not even a release date — but it sounds like Tatsunoko is throwing their weight into it. Total Licensing magazine revealed they’re planning to reintroduce audiences to the series and will make episodes available in high definition for the first time. [Nerdist]

More Emotional Support. If you found yourself leaning on Netflix’s Grace and Frankie starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, then you’re in luck. The comedy has been renewed for Season 2. It will return in 2016. Series co-creator Marta Kauffman said, “We have Ted [Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer] and Miley [Cyrus] to thank.” (Miley tweeted about the series). [Entertainment Weekly]

For Your Consideration. Mad Men’s Emmy ads have always had a classy and sleek air — much like the show itself. The stills they choose manage to capture all the emotion of the scenes they’re from, and this year’s round of images doesn’t disappoint. They celebrate the final season of the series, and they’ll be on billboards around Los Angeles as of June 1. See the other posters at The Hollywood Reporter.

The Doctor’s Greatest Adventure. Where is the craziest and most bizarre place the Doctor can go? Hint: It’s not in space. It’s San Diego Comic-Con! BBC is bringing Doctor Who back to the massive convention this year, and they’re bringing Peter Capaldi with them. Capaldi has never been to Comic-Con before, but he won’t be alone. He’ll be joined by Jenna Coleman, Michelle Gomez, Steven Moffat, and Brian Minchin. [Nerdist]

Another Life? When we see fictional rich people throw their money at questions of life and death, it’s usually in pursuit of immortality. But in TNT’s Proof, Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine) wants to know what happens after death and he wants to prove it. He’s recruited the skeptical Dr. Cathryn Tyler (Jennifer Beals) to help with his quest. The promo for the show looks intriguing. The series premieres on June 16. [TV Fanatic]

Peaceful in Paper. Twin Peaks isn’t what I would call a tranquil series, but the opening credits always have a calming effect on me. They only show the surface of the sleepy town and not all the weird happenings. And The World Was Paper’s papercraft take on the credits is somehow even more relaxing and, given the logging nature of the town, it’s kind of neat to see the credits done in the medium. [A.V. Club]

Yep, More Villains. Fox’s Gotham has quite the Rogues Gallery already, but more additions are coming for Season 2. TVLine reports a male DC villain described as “intelligent, cultured and highly articulate,” and “extremely attractive, both seductive and threatening” is on the way, as is a female DC villain in her late 20s described as “a sexy knock-out.” Well, I’m glad we know she’s sexy but don’t get anything about her personality (yes, that’s sarcasm). Who do you think it could be? [TVLine]

Are you planning to line up for Hall H in order to see Peter Capaldi make his first appearance at Comic-Con? Head to the comments and let me know how long you’re willing to wait.
