Oh hey, Monday. For those of you who spent the weekend at WonderCon or otherwise kept busy, hang in there. You’ll get to take a nap soon. Since you’re awake though, you may as well catch up on the latest news from the weekend. I was surprised by how much happened while I wasn’t looking. David Lynch is leaving Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival, ABC is considering bringing back The Muppet Show, George R.R. Martin is developing another series for HBO, and more.
After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

What’s the Opposite of Fire Walking? Showtime’s Twin Peaks reboot may have to move forward without David Lynch. The co-creator of the show was set to direct nine episodes based on scripts that he wrote with Mark Frost — key word being “was.” Lynch took to Twitter last night to say that he left the project because Showtime wasn’t ponying up enough money to execute the scripts the way he felt they should be done. He also called actors to let them know he was bowing out, and I can’t help but wonder if any of them will choose to bail. Showtime says they’re still trying to resolve the deal so we’ll see if they can sweeten the pot enough to get Lynch to stay. The reboot wouldn’t be the same without him. [Deadline]
The Dawn of TV. George R.R. Martin recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter. Though the author is working hard to complete it, he also has another project in development with HBO. The current title is Captain Cosmos, and the premise is: “At the dawn of the age of TV in 1949, a visionary young writer creates a science fiction series that tells stories no one else will dare to tell.” Michael Cassutt (Z Nation) is writing the pilot. It’s Time to Play the Music. All the best things seem to come back around, and sometimes those things involve Muppets. ABC is thinking about bringing back a version of The Muppet Show which means we can all flail like Kermit. The working title is Muppets 2015, and The Big Bang Theory creators Bill Prady and Bob Kushell are co-writing a pilot presentation. The description? “The Muppets excitedly gather at ABC for a meeting about the new Muppet Show. However, the show will not move forward unless Miss Piggy signs on.” [Variety]
Nerdist on Syfy. Need MOAR of Nerdist News? You’re in luck! A weekly Nerdist News series is in development at Syfy. Chris Hardwick and Brandon Monk (Talking Dead)Â will executive produce the half-hour pilot. Yes, this means it’s time for more Kermit flailing. [Nerdist]
Dark and Gritty Can Be Good. Marvel is unlike DC in many ways and one of those ways is a definite lack of “grittiness.” I’m more than OK with that since I prefer a lighter tone, but a peppy approach isn’t right for everything so Marvel’s changing it up with Daredevil. The latest trailers emphasize the rough and moody streets of Hell’s Kitchen and I can’t wait to see more. [Nerdist]
More Political Drama. Netflix has announced House of Cards will be back for Season 4. So… spoiler alert: apparently Frank Underwood doesn’t die at the end of Season 3. [Vulture]
That’s One Way to Go. Outlander returned with its midseason premiere over the weekend, and boy, did they make a statement. The episode, “The Reckoning,” picked up where we left off but from Jamie’s perspective rather than Claire’s. After Jamie rescues Claire from Jack Randall, they have their first fight–including a controversial scene from the books by Diana Gabaldon. Read Alicia’s recap to get the lowdown.
The Flash at WonderCon. Carlos Valdes (Cisco), Candice Patton (Iris), Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin), and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg took a slice of Central City to Anaheim during WonderCon over the weekend and dropped all sorts of hints and even some spoilers. Hey, the first season of The Flash is nearly over, so why not? For example, Panabaker said her character’s arc for the rest of the season will be “frosty.” Will we be seeing Killer Frost so soon?! And besides The Flash updates, Kreisberg took a moment to explain why some Arrow characters say “Raysh” al Ghul while others say “Rahs.” He said, “What we decided is that if youâre [allied with the character], you call him âRayshâ, and if not, you call him âRahs.'” Huh.
