TV-Cap: ARROW and SUPERGIRL Updates, Let Go of HARRY POTTER TV Dreams, & More

Sometimes I forget that a Supergirl television series is almost here, and any time I’m reminded by casting news or character additions, I can’t stop smiling. I’m looking forward to several TV series this fall, but that one is probably at the top of my list. There’s a new trailer for Supergirl in today’s TV-Cap as well as updates on new cast members for Arrow and Colony, a new face on Game of Thrones, the bizarre/great teaser for Westworld, and more.

Who Is He? Until Game of Thrones returns next spring, the only way to pass the time is to speculate. It is known. The casting of Sebastian Croft has fans wondering if the show is diving into more flashbacks and bringing us a young Ned Stark–or at least a Stark of some kind. It’s there in his face; Croft looks like he could fit right in at Winterfell. [Nerdist, image via Curtis Brown]

Where He Belongs. Ever since I saw Sam Elliott in Tombstone, I’ve decided he should always be in westerns or barring that, western settings. He’ll sort of be filling that role in Netflix’s The Ranch. Elliott has been cast as the father of Ashton Kutcher’s and Danny Masterson’s characters in the original comedy–seeing Elliott act against those two should be interesting–and the story is set on a Colorado ranch with Elliott as a rancher. Perfect. [Deadline]

Starling City Additions. Yet another couple of faces will be joining Arrow in Starling City. Rutina Wesley (Hannibal) has nabbed a role for a multi-episode arc–could she be Vixen?! Parker Young has also joined the season in a recurring role; he’ll play Alex Davis, a love interest for Thea Queen. [Comic Book Resources]

Polishing Apples. Bart is going to develop a crush on a teacher in the next season of The Simpsons, and that teacher will be voiced by Sofia Vergara. She’s guest starring as Ms. Berrera, and the teacher will be pursued by both Bart and Principal Skinner. The episode with Vergara will air in the middle of the upcoming 27th season. The Final Word. Season 2 of True Detective took a bow on Sunday, and from what I saw on social media, people have…mixed opinions. I know the fact that people have differing opinions is shocking. What did critics think? Click the above infographic from Rotten Tomatoes to get a closer look at their opinions.

Taking Flight. Executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Ali Adler appeared at the Television Critics Association press tour to talk about Supergirl on Monday. They brought the new trailer above (it’s mostly footage we’ve already seen in a different order) and mentioned we’ll see the following characters in Season 1: General Sam Lane, Red Tornado, and Non. They also touched on the possibility of crossing over with The Flash and Arrow. CBS Entertainment chair Nina Tassler said: “I’m a little bit of a superhero geek and I have a lot of respect for what characters inhabit certain universes. You can’t just pick up one character and let them fly over and appear in another setting. You really have to be respectful and mindful of what each universe says you can and can’t do. Obviously working very closely with DC and our producers, Greg Berlanti is the poster child for this field. Right now we’re not doing it. We’re doing it promotionally, but we’ll always stay open. They’re very inventive about what they can and will do.” So, they’ll cross over in promos but not in the shows? Does anyone else think that’s confusing? [TVLine and /Film]

Potter on Primetime. The world of Harry Potter is so rich that it’s no wonder fans want to see as much of it as possible in as many ways as possible. But, one of those ways will not be on television. There weren’t necessarily rumors floating around, but there were dreams, and one fan asked Rowling about the possibility of a TV series on Twitter (isn’t social media the best?). She said, “Right after the opera, Potter-on-ice and the interpretative dance version of Beedle the Bard #NotActuallyHappening.” Aww. I can let go of the TV idea, but I was really looking forward to that interpretative dance. [Nerdist]

Power Players. USA Network’s Colony has cast two more recurring roles: Adrian Pasdar and Kathryn Morris have joined the series as a married couple. Pasdar’s Nolan is a member of the occupational government, and Morris’s Charlotte is a cultural director in the wealthy area of occupied Los Angeles. The series from Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions follows Josh Holloway’s character and his family as they try to free L.A. [Variety]

What The… HBO has released the first teaser for Westworld, and oh my stars, it is insane. And I mean that in the best kind of way. The 30 seconds of footage from the TV series based on the 1973 film of the same name is disturbing and gets under your skin. I was going to say that it’s hard to go wrong with a sci-fi and western combo, but then I remembered Cowboys and Aliens. Never mind. [Nerdist]

Punisher In Action. Jon Bernthal definitely looks the part of Frank Castle and leaked set photos from Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil confirm that he’s a great choice for the role–at least physically. The shots show him in action and beating someone up, because of course. See the pics at The Mary Sue.

Money, UTIs, Etc. Amy Schumer is covering a wide range of personal topics in her first HBO stand-up special. She performed in front of an audience at the Apollo Theater back in May, and the first look at the special has me longing to see the entire thing immediately. Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo will premiere on October 27th on HBO.

Do you have any theories about the Game of Thrones casting? Let me know in the comments.
