Everyone knows that Starbucks has a special secret menu from which you can technically order if you know what you want, but this year, Starbucks has a new exciting addition to said menu that is specifically for all the witches and wizards who happen into their local coffee shop. The Harry Potter-inspired butterbeer you can get yourself from Starbucks won’t be spiked the way the kind you can make at home might be, but it still looks pretty darn delicious to me.

The concoction can be made both hot (as you can see above) and cold (as you’ll see below in a minute), and both may be just what you need as the weather gets chillier and you wish you had a Hogwarts scarf to keep you warm. For those of you who live in warmer climates (not jealous to be honest), the frappuccino version looks absolutely mouthwatering.

As with all the Starbucks secret recipes, you are totally allowed to order them, but you are going to probably want to know the recipes so that you can tell a barista who hasn’t made it before. Here’s the run down: for a hot butterbeer latte, you’re going to need a whole milk steamer with caramel, toffee nut, and cinnamon dolce syrup (2 for a tall, 3 for a grande and 4 for a venti EACH), whipped cream and salted caramel bits on the top and a shot of espresso if you’re in the mood for a coffee kick. For the frappuccino, you’ll need a creme frappuccino base, caramel syrup and toffee nut syrup (3 pumps each), and a topper of caramel drizzle.
Here’s one important note from someone in the know, though: Do not skimp on the fat for this drink. You’re going to want the whole milk, whipped cream versions of this beverage or it just won’t be the same. So, maybe indulge in it now while the holiday season is upon us and we can basically eat until we can’t stand up on a regular basis. Something tells me this is just not bikini season friendly.
Now excuse me, I need to head out to a Starbucks with my copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince so that I can spend this first day of November in true Harry Potter fandom ecstasy.
