TRUE DETECTIVE’s Bleak Outlook Gets Put Into Moving Poster Form

Isn’t it great how True Detective is the happiest show on TV? It’s so refreshing to find something so light and airy to tune into, considering all the epic anti-hero business going on around on television these days. Nic Pizzolatto’s bright and sunshine-y outlook has always been the standout feature of the series — previously embodied by Matthew McConaughey’s bubblebucket of a human, Rust Cohle. And this latest bit of marketing ephemera is no different, shining a light on just how awesome and happy the world is right now.

EXCEPTOHWAITNO. The existential dread parade that is the HBO series is going full-tilt into its promotional push in advance of its June 21st return to the small screen fold, and these motion posters are a very real reminder that everything is awful and people are terrible and we have no one to blame but ourselves for these modern times.

We get the world we deserve? We GET THE WORLD WE DESERVE? Great now we feel guilty thanks a lot, you guys.

This season of True Detective focuses on — according to the official synopsis — “a bizarre murder,” bringing “together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.”

Are you ready for True Detective season 2 at last? Let’s hear it in the comments.
