TRUE DETECTIVE Season 2 Eyeing Colin Farrell to Star

It looks like time is a flat circle after all as another major movie star is looking to make the leap to television to join HBO’s Emmy Award-nominated True Detective. The rumor mill has been working overtime as everyone, their mother, and the Yellow King wonder intently as to who would be filling out the three expected lead roles. Today, TheWrap is reporting that Colin Farrell is in talks to star in the moody limited series. Understandably, we’re not totally sure how much truth there is to this rumor, but Farrell certainly has the acting chops to do something incredible with the role. For the younger male lead, two male actors are in contention for the role, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund, and sources are saying that Kitsch has a slight edge. Of course, HBO is keeping mum, saying that “there is no news to confirm on the casting.”

We’re undoubtedly getting closer to finding out not only who will be in the lineup for the hotly anticipated second season, but also the director. This new bit of Farrell news comes hot on the heels of a report from The Playlist that director William Friedkin (Killer Joe, The Exorcist) met with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto talk about directing the new season. “I like this writer [Nic Pizzolatto] very much,” said Friedkin. “I’ve met him, and he’s the real deal as far as I’m concerned. Now, all the new seasons are different so I’m not committed—this new season has nothing to do with the last one. Except for him and his sensibility, which I think is extraordinary.”

I don’t know about you guys, but a Farrell/Friedkin team-up is something I would definitely like to see. Remember McConaughey’s jaw-dropping, fried chicken-ruining turn in Killer Joe? That came out of a collaboration with Friedkin. Considering Farrell’s work with equally pitch black films like In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, I think the two could make something really special together. Still, at this point, they’re both just rumors and we’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates as they come in.
