Last year, Tron fans in the United States were perhaps a little jealous that Shanghai Disneyland opened with a thrilling, Tron: Legacy-inspired roller coaster that gave the new park a ride that was unavailable anywhere else in the world. The TRON Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster quickly proved to be one of the park’s most popular attractions. Now, it may finally be coming to the US in the next few years.
WDW News Today is reporting that Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom may be getting a TRON Lightcycle Power Run of its own in Tomorrowland. According to that site, the new attraction would take over the space currently held by the Tomorrowland Speedway ride. Nerdist has reached out to Disney for confirmation of this report, but we have not yet heard back as of press time.
The Lightcycle ride briefly places fans into the world of Tron with a very fast roller coaster. As seen in the video below, the experience is over in less than two minutes, but it still looks amazingly fun!
The only complaint that we have is that the ride appears to be over far too soon, and we’d love to see an extended version at Disney World. Regardless of the length, we’re very excited about the prospect of getting to try that ride for ourselves. This week happens to be the 35th anniversary of Tron, and it would be very appropriate if Disney makes the announcement at D23 Expo later this week.
Older fans may recall that Disneyland once had a Tron attraction of its own, as part of the PeopleMover. That ride has been closed for over two decades, so we’re overdue to get a new one on the west coast as well. Hopefully that will also be in the cards.
