According to Variety’s sources, Trevor Noah is on the shortlist to replace John Stewart after his Daily Show tenure ends.

Trevor Noah is already a correspondent on the show and if you don’t recognize the name, you likely recognize the face. He was The Daily Show‘s correspondent you might remember giving that painfully accurate critique of America’s handling of the Ebola “crisis” that was manufactured by the right wing and the media last year.

As a South African, Noah hails from the second largest continent on earth, and therefore already has geographical bragging rights in the “whose land mass is bigger?” argument. Layer onto that the multiple languages he speaks, and you have a young man who is wildly well-versed in intentional relations, and therefore well-poised for a comedy news show.

A smattering of his standup comedy can be found on YouTube as well as a special on Netflix and the best way I can describe his style is “unassuming.” You never quite expect the big punchline he’s about to deliver, because he is a genius in the redirection setup, followed up with the atomic truth bomb. The fact that he delivers it all with an eager smile almost requires a second playback of the whole joke just to make sure that you heard what you think you just heard.

Much talk has been bandied about regarding Jon’s anchor chair since Samantha Bee and her husband Jason Jones are headed to TBS, and Jessica Williams removed herself from consideration. Stephen Colbert ended his own Colbert Report and will of course be helming The Late Show after Dave Letterman steps down. John Oliver has been getting rave reviews for his weekly HBO show. After a brief Daily Show correspondent stint, Michael Che returned to his SNL roots going from writer to “Weekend Update” anchor alongside that show’s head writer, Colin Jost. Larry Wilmore, formerly The Daily Show‘s “Senior Black Correspondent” has since filled Colbert’s old Comedy Central 11:30 spot.

Noah’s debut on The Daily Show is just about as perfect a segment as can be:
