A TREMORS Reboot Is Headed to TV with Original Star Kevin Bacon

It looks like the cult classic movie Tremors is the latest horror property to make the transition from the big screen to the small one. Entertainment Weekly reports that Universal Pictures and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions are gearing up for a Tremors television series. The new show will feature original star Kevin Bacon, who will reprise his role as Valentine McKee from the first film in the franchise. Bacon, fresh off three seasons of The Following, is also attached as an executive producer.

The original 1990 film, about a small town under attack from giant underground creatures, spawned four straight-to-video sequels, and even a short-lived television series back in 2003. However, none of them had original star Kevin Bacon attached. This news follows an interview Bacon did only a few short months ago where he expressed interest in returning to the world of Tremors, telling IGN that he would “love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later.” No network is officially attached yet, but there are said to be several interested parties already.

Tremors is but the latest old-school horror property to make the transition to television. A&E has seen great success with their Psycho prequel series Bates Motel, and Starz also brought back Bruce Campbell as Ash for their Ash Vs. The Evil Dead series. Scream is another example of a classic horror franchise that has been re-invented for television. And one can make the argument that The Walking Dead is essentially the George Romero Living Dead movie series reinvented as a television serial. Could Tremors follow in their successful footsteps?

What do you think of a potential Tremors series? And are there any horror properties from the past you think would make cool TV shows? Let us know in the comments!
