TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE Coming to Blu-ray in September

In the mid-’80s, the entire world was overtaken by a war between two races of robots from another planet. These robots could change into vehicles and they were cool as all Cybertron. Following a hugely successful television series and a toy line that still might be among the best toys ever made, the world was treated to a surprisingly downbeat yet completely awesome feature film: Transformers: The Movie! Featuring a voice cast consisting of the likes of Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, and Robert Stack, the movie is a strange and glorious phenomenon. It’s never been on Blu-ray in North America… until now!

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Transformers: The Movie, Hasbro Studios and Shout! Factory have struck a multi-year agreement to distribute the film on Blu-ray and select digital platforms in this continent, something which fans have been clamoring for for years. It’s a partnership that will give the world a collector’s edition of the film, an HD transfer of the original 35mm elements, and a collection of high qualityextra for which Shout! is known. Up to now, fans have only been able to get an old Region 1 DVD, so this is about as big as Unicron himself.

Now the one thing we don’t know yet is whether they’ll go back into the movie and change it using technology so that Optimus Prime doesn’t die and maybe even so that my childhood changes and I don’t spend six days crying about the death of a fictional, animated character who’s a robot that can change into a semi-truck. Anyone prepared to do that?!?! At least I had that awesome song “The Touch” to console me.

Transformers: The Movie Anniversary Edition Blu-ray will be available for Autobot-lovers everywhere September 13, 2016. You’ve got something to look forward to after Labor Day!
