In 2014, Tracy Morgan signed on to star in a comedy pilot on FXX from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia veterans Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton. That project is no longer happening, but Morgan already has a new pilot lined up on FX.
FX has revealed that Morgan has signed on to star in a new comedy pilot written by Jordan Peele and John Carcieri (Eastbound & Down). Morgan is slated to play a career criminal who is released after a 15-year prison term into a society that left him far behind. âNow a man whose only expertise is making grilled cheese with an iron must navigate a modern world of political correctness, internet, and self-driving cars.â
âWhat an unbeatable combination â Tracy Morgan and Jordan Peele â two exceptional comics joining forces with a great team of writers and producers to create and produce this pilot for FX Networks,” said Nick Grad, FX’s original programming president. “Weâve been committed to Tracy from the start and are thrilled that Jordan, John, Eric and Joel are joining him in developing this new project.â
This is actually Morganâs third go-around with FX. He previously starred in Death Pact, a 2013 FX comedy pilot that wasnât ordered to series. Morgan is best known for his eight seasons on Saturday Night Live and for his starring role on 30 Rock for seven seasons. In 2014, Morgan suffered serious injuries when his tour minibus was struck by another driver. During Morganâs long recovery, FX said that his comedy pilot would be waiting for him when his health returned.
Morganâs currently untitled new comedy pilot is expected to be filmed this summer, with Morgan, Peele, and Carcieri as the executive producers.
